Circa August 2005 Satellite LFs
« on: May 07, 2008, 12:52:18 AM »
Just curious, does anyone have any satellite LF videos from right around the August 15, 2005 relaunch or shortly thereafter (maybe a few weeks after)? I'm looking for videos of when the satellite LF still had mixed case text in the titlebar.

I've so far found
one
from August 29th during Katrina coverage. Anyone know of any others from around this time period?

Thanks.

Here's one that I have, from the morning of August 15. I didn't record this, nor do I know who did.

Thanks Mike. Though I'm sure I'm wrong, I don't think I've ever seen the satellite LF where the daypart forecasts were for one day, but the regional forecasts were showing the next day already.

I'm looking for the August 2005 lf clips as well. I'm trying to listen to some of the songs in that played in that period. (July and Aug 2005 playlists were a favorite of mine).

If it's showing the forecast for Tuesday, then that clip could be from August 16. This version was brand new at the time though, so it could very well just be a bug or something.

I'm guessing that the date in the filename is indeed correct because the dayparts for Monday are still showing times early in the day. If it had been recorded on Tuesday August 16th, then we'd probably be seeing dayparts for Tuesday. I'm guessing it was just a bug that caused the regionals to show Tuesday.

Also, on a somewhat related note, does anyone know what times the satellite LF, IntelliStar, and XL were updated on August 15th? Was it right at 5:00 am et?

No, because I saw a clip on YouTube of the relaunch, and when First Outlook started the IntelliStar still showed the old logo on the LDL. It had to be sometime between 5AM and 8AM when the IntelliStars and XL's were updated, judging from clips I've seen.

I'd be willing to guess that the Satellite would've been updated before anything, because it comes directly out of TWC, and does not need a STAR update to be sent out and installed remotely, which takes longer.

Notice how though that on the Thunderstorm and Precip forecasts, the title bar is still using the old theme.

Love that song, BTW. I'd love to see some more clips from August 2005.

Yeah, the title bars on the national segments weren't updated until about a month and a half after the relaunch. I always wondered why those two screens on the satellite forecast don't use the same banners as the other screens (radar/satellite, 3-day forecast, etc).

In case you are wondering what the song is, it's "You and Me" by Soul Cafe.

Yes, Soul Cafe's songs were retitled as Samuel Lincoln on TWC's playlists.
