Title: Fate of the 2 Minute Locals
Post by: gt1racerlHDl on March 01, 2013, 11:20:46 AM
I spoke with B. Farmer from TWC and here is the latest reply about the situation (to avoid anymore rumors.)

as of now, 2 minute locals are out (generally-there are 2 which play on the weekend 4:28am local), however, don't give up hope. We have been working on the programming department to see if they will increase the length of the locals in the future as they are always evaluating the process.

Hopefully the 2-minute flavors will return someday. Fingers crossed....

here is reply #2

He is a Met with TWC since '84 and has been pushing for extended locals for a while

You are okay, GT. I know you are a weather involved viewer and I do mean that I pass your comments on in my weekly report. We are trying to convince programming the need for meteorological info and that the customers demand it. I just don't make the decisions unfortunately...I am a meteorologist and have been here since '84, so I understand met info's importance.

Tell him the lot8s are still important. I can't view several products on the dtv and have always missed the locals due to them being so short. Having the IS2 is pointless with fewer lfs but again management could care less

It sounds like there's still some people there that are on our side. Awesome! :D

I know its a long stretch but maybe try and convinvce him to talk to the music programmer and get rid of all the **** vocals on the LF's too

The fact that somebody at TWC would push for a return of the two-minute locals is awesome. I think they'd be suited especially at the :28 and :58 because that's when other shows on other channels end their program and viewers can switch to see a thorough, informative forecast. Weather should be the top priority, but then again, they may really need the extra ads to sustain the network's profit--even though they are highly irritating.

The 30-second locals (and the accompanying commercials) aren't necessarily going away just because two-minute LFs show back up.  If TWC wants to keep plenty of ads while still running two-minute LFs, they could run the two-minute LFs at :28 and :58 as Twcfan68 suggested and run the 30-second version at all other :x8 times.  This would be an acceptable compromise to me.  Then, the vocals (if they have to run) could be relegated to the "off-peak" times and the good stuff could be heard at :28 and :58.

What about an national weather scan for directv and dish? and maybe even make it HD.
