Title: Song Identification needed
Post by: Localonthe8s on July 08, 2010, 01:41:39 PM
For those of you who follow classic TWC music (This is not a TWC video btw but this is the best place IMO to post this), there's an accuweather station in my area that plays a lot of TWC music, many of them from the 90s. In fact most of the music Accuweather plays is the classic stuff TWC has played before like Pee Wee, Homeward Bound, Shadowfax, etc.

Can someone please ID these songs, if possible in this video. These songs may be familiar to anyone into 90s jazz/TWC music. WFMZ Smooth Jazz Combo 6/25 & 7/1 (Includes one TWC song) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JaDfK9chB3Y#)

Thanks.

I don't know the identities of any of the unknown songs in that video, but I do know that none are from TWC. They may be songs from TWC artists, but if they are they weren't used.

"Norwegian Mood" by Oystein Sevag is listed on the July 1991 playlist from TWC. I haven't been able to confirm that it was actually used, though.

I'm pretty sure that 3:10- 4:01 Unknown is "Distant Thoughts" by Dan Siegel, which was used in the late 80s.

Not sure about the last unknown.

Good selections!

Thanks Gary and Matt! I will post another clip when I have the time to. Yeah, that Oystein song is listed in the playlist as I thought it sounded familiar. I will also post that Siegel song in the description since I can trust you Matt. :P Thanks for the IDs!

Here's another:
Channel 69 WFMZ Accuweather Smooth Jazz Combo 7/12/10 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyTWCkn7FCE#)

Jamaican Nights by Russ Freeman was used before, right? it sounds so familiar.

According to Matt's site, that song was on the December 1986 playlist.  However, I didn't hear that song in the video you posted here.

That is what Soundhound on a friend's ipod touch says...I sampled it on Amazon and it sounds the same although I haven't heard the full song.

Listening to the middle of that song, it does sound like it. The other two I recognized were "The Joy Of Life" and "Midnight Motion" by Kenny G.

Were those two Kenny G songs used earlier on TWC?

Yes. "Joy of Life" was used in '93 and "Midnight Motion" was used in '88.

The second tune is "Café Carnival" by Craig Chaquico, used in 2000. Another midway through the clip is "Sooner or Later" by The Roberts Bros., but it wasn't used on TWC.

And, by the way, this six minute clip of weather and music is far more entertaining and useful than anything on TWC these days.

Thank you, Layne :) I concur, as I've stopped watching TWC and instead turned onto Channel 69 to hear these classics instead. I will post more as time allows.

I recorded that AccuWeather channel from 4:30-6 this morning. I'll try to get clips of later. I wish I got the actual channel, but I can only see it during overnights when WFMZ simulcasts it.

Nope, sorry.  I wish I did though, I used the same 90 second cut in the 4000 emulator I found at TWCC.

"With You" is from Ficara's first album, "Tribal Jazz." It was widely available at one time, but I guess all of their work is now unavailable.

Why does an Artist make their music unavailable?  It makes no sense to make the music unavailable so new listeners can't get it.

I thought 1999 was the release of "Stormy Weather".
"Stormy Weather" was released in 1998. The "1999 TWC Music" cassette contained the final set of music they composed.

Why does an Artist make their music unavailable?  It makes no sense to make the music unavailable so new listeners can't get it.
Artists don't "make" their music unavailable. Publishers just stop publishing them when they can turn a profit. Making CDs isn't free, you know. :)

However, I don't see why they couldn't have made their recordings available as mp3 downloads (unless the masters are gone).

CD's only cost approx a dollar to make.  The songs should be available as mp3.

The Accu-Weather Channel reminds me of the way The Weather Channel used to be. I like this channel (and lucky enough) to live in an area that can receive the broadcast.

Here is an example of a severe thunderstorm scroll.

Same, I don't have the 24hr Accuweather channel though. They play a lot of good classic TWC music and the graphics are very retro. They remind me of the way tv stations back in the early 90s look like
