Gonzalo becomes the sixth hurricane of the 2014 Atlantic hurricane season and could become our second MAJOR hurricane as early as Wednesday morning based on the current forecast by the NHC.  After striking the Leeward Islands, the storm will eventually take a northeastward trend, possibly making a direct landfall on Bermuda but staying well away from the US East Coast.

This is my fourth summer living in Florida, and, other than a couple of hardly-worth-mentioning brushes on the far edges of storms, my corner of the state has been hurricane-free this entire time.  Meanwhile, Massachusetts, where I moved from, has had a series of direct hits, which hadn't happened previously since 1991.

I suppose the state of Florida should be thanking me...

Gonzalo is still well on it's way to becoming a Category FOUR hurricane as it approaches Bermuda this weekend.

The last major hurricane to hit Bermuda was Hurricane Fabian back in 2003.

The storm is over 100mi NE of Bermuda (5am ADT 10/18/14) and there are still 60-80mph winds on the island!

They had the track almost exactly right.  It went almost perfectly over the island.

There's been 2 today due to a collapsed tree (In the UK).
Anyhow today has been really unsettled as the remains of Gonzalo passed over us. Heavy Rain - check. Strong Wind - Check. Less weather savvy friends claiming where in a hurricane when where actually probably not even in a tropical depression - Check. Thunderstorms... Ahh, I knew there was something missing.
