Title: Configuring the emulator troubles
Post by: cc17926 on November 01, 2008, 07:21:35 AM
I've noticed a number of users attempting to configure the emulator, but getting snagged along the way with some configuration problems.. I cant stress enough that you should not rush while configuring the emulator on the site. Even if you are not using all the packages that are inside the emulator, all elements must be correct. The emulator relies on all packages being correctly configured. I working on a plan to change that dependancy, to only require packages used to be configured. Just in the mean time, all packages need to be correct. A major problem I have noticed is that the coastal waters forecast zone is not properly set up. This *must* be a coastal zone, not a county zone! If you are not using the coastal waters forecast, just use the example zone of "anz451". This is also case-sensative!!

I enjoy everyone wishing to try out and use the emulator. Expect there to be bugs, although as I say, most problems are with configuring the emulator and not the emulator itself. Alot of the internal bugs of the emulator have already been corrected.

There are a few forecast offices in this country which follow an irregular format than the prescribed "directives" by the NWS, and the configuration server can pick up on that while configuring the emulator. As for the Extended Forecast/Boating Forecast, one of the forecast offices in Flordia follows an irregular format. I would also assume there are other forecast offices that follow this irregular format. The proper format used by the emulator is the "Tabular State Forecast" (SFT). Please don't become frustrated, there is always something that Martin and I can do for you to make this work!

I know not all "preffered" cities are in the Regional Weather Roundup (RWR) for the Current Conditions/Regional Observations. I may change or mingle this with Airport codes (those metar things) so you can pick exactly which location you would like.

If you are having a difficult time configuring the emulator on your own, drop your user name in a post below, and I will check out what the problem is and note what the issue is and correct the problem for you, and make sure the emulator will run properly.

Derek, I believe it is your Coastal Waters Forecast. ;)

Try putting in PZZ535 for the CWF. ;)

That's exactly what I put, and it still shows no weather data.

I would still like to report that ALMOST none of the areas in Washington work. Every time I try to use them, they just hang and try to load forever and then eventually time out on the config page.

My emulator STILL shows no weather data available, and I already tried changing the CWF to the sample one Brian put in his config. Could someone take a look at my config please?

"in that extended forecast product, theres 2 zones that are named "santa rosa" and "santa cruz"

Go ahead and set it to anything besides "santa"

while on that note, correct the boating forecast because that will bomb out too because thats set to the same zone

I'm trying to just set up the emulator. Everytime I try to pick a NWS Zone, and push the submit button, it just hangs. Also, yes it's Washington state. I've tried Seattle/Bremerton Area--WA:508 and East Puget Sound Lowlands--WA:505

Hi martin,

Man, I hate to be a pest, but...

My account is working. I re-read the instructions and saw the Coastal Waters Forecast zone you recommended, and it still doesn't work; I get local forecast unavailable, and then my barker page. By the way, it appears all of the data is downloading fine; I have a ~40 megabit Internet connection(!) where I am at work, and I'm not afraid to use it,  but nothing will come up other than Local Forecast Unavailable, with "Unavailable" spelled wrong. I'm stumped on what to do next. Can you help, please? Thanks for any help!

Gilbert

Hey guys, my emulator says, "local weather data temporarily unavailable" and has said this continuously since I first configured everything yesterday. I was wondering if you could check my configuration to see what I did wrong? One thing I was confused on was what to type in for the regional observations where it asks, "How you'd like it to be displayed". If you guys covered that somewhere then I apologize. I figured that might be one of the things that is screwing it up for me. Anyway, if you could please check on my configuration, and let me know of my mistakes, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank You.
