I'm interested in knowing when you guys think you'll see the first flakes fall where you live. For my area I'm guessing around the Thanksgiving Holidays or shortly right after. Thanksgiving Week is the earliest I have ever seen the first snowflakes fall here which was back in 2006 two days before my birthday, that's a rare treat.
-
October 31, Halloween!
-
Snowfall, pshnowfall. :bleh: None for me.
-
Hopefully not until after Thanksgiving weekend.
-
If any here, probably Dec-Feb. Usually When its the coldest. Most likely will be just rain, sleet,or freezing rain. Never any snow :( Except last February there was!
-
I have actually seen the first snow of the season occur before Halloween, but I don't expect anything early this winter with La Niņa in place. I'll guess around the middle of December and hope for a white Christmas. It'll be interesting this winter as I'll be taking official snow measurements and making snowfall reports for the first time! B)
-
I was going to make a post like this lol  but the earliest ive seen snow here in southeast texas was 12/4/09 when we had 0.4 inches so I wouldent be surpriesed to see any this year.
-
I expect the first snow to occur late this month, before Halloween.
-
never....it's hot as hell in texas, it's quite absurd. :club:
-
I don't know if it ever will in the city of Tampa. I remember there was sleet in some of the outlying and nothern areas last year.

And over here in extreme eastern Hillsborough county
As for us...no. Weve been in a drought and its pretty much how 2008-2009 is going for us.. Below-normal autumn but winter was at par or above par.
-

Well, that turned out to be a fail. :foolish: There were rain/snow showers forecasted last night though. I think it was the first snow of the season.
-
i would expect it to occur between now and march :P

Way to be courageous, Alex. Now, if your forecast busts, I'm going to forbid you from forecasting forever.
-
I give my first flakes one hour!
-
Probably January-February if we are lucky. The snowshield is strong in my area <_<

Precip dry up or not cold enough?
-
Well although this isn't snow, my area did see sleet mixed with rain yesterday so it's the first wintry type weather we've seen so far, but I'm still waiting for that first snowflake to fall.
-

Precip dry up or not cold enough?
There was a lake effect snow shower just to my north. It disappated as it drifted southward towards me.
-
About an inch or two fell yesterday 5 miles to my east.

Aww too bad :(

Nice!

November 19. It looks like a system with a colder air mass may reach the Great Lakes between November 18-21.
(On statistical average, the first flakes fall in Monroe, MI on November 11.)

I thought that was the light snow/snow shower icon, and the one with 3 coming out of the cloud and 2 below them was the "snow" icon... Maybe I'm just thinking of the XL icons set...
BTW, I still say November 19, because one of my local mets said: "An accumulating snow could be possible a few days before Thanksgiving. I'll talk about it more when the time gets closer."
I checked accuweather and snow is in the forecast from Nov 19-Nov 21.

the other video of hartford's conditions shows the Snow/Wind icon

Very nice! Were there any accumulations?

I cant wait til it snows where I live
-
Hopefully by the end of this year, even if it is the form of sleet.
-
It's going to happen in Chicagoland tonight!
-
First flakes: November 25
First half inch: December 1.
-
I measured the first trace of snow back on December 1, but I'm still waiting for the first inch to truly call it the "first snow" of the season. It may come later today from a little Alberta clipper if the snow will stick on the ground.
-
Probably January-February if we are lucky. The snowshield is strong in my area <_<
Tomorrow night

Thats awsome, at least your snow forecast is true  unlike ours <_<, the weather forecast two days ago said that there was a chance of snow in our area next Tuesday. http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/1001/snowpossibleon120710.jpg (http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/1001/snowpossibleon120710.jpg) But it kinda dwindled away off the cast. I wasnt surprised though, and our NWS area forecast discussion its still possibe to see some wintry precip in our area Tuesday night, so im still hoping for it to snow then, and on christmas.
-
It snowed briefly on Thanksgiving morning here but it melted once it hit the ground due to high ground temperatures and earlier rainfall. Other than a few flurries I don't expect any measurable snow for the next few weeks as we're in a pretty dry spell right now. The clipper that's in the forecast will miss us by the south.
-
If anyone guessed December 4 would be the answer for my first snowfall, then you beat my prediction of mid-December! 2.7" of snow fell from that clipper, and everything is white here.
-
A very interesting setup possible next weekend with a system coming through the Great Lakes. GFS says a weak disturbance, while the ECMWF predicts a major winter storm....
Come on...Come on...Please be right ECMWF!...
-
Well I busted on my thoughts of around Thanksgiving week, but we did see a rain/sleet mix right before then. There was some flurry action just to my north today, but we missed out. :(
-
I wish it was tonight
-
First foot- December 12???
-
I say 12/28
-
(Sighs) For the second time this week, I missed out on my first snowfall because it was too doggone dry! :( Well at least some areas in the South managed to see snow today like Macon, Warner Robbins, and Montgomery so that's good. :)
-
It could snow here tonight, :dunno: if the air wasn't so dry  it could get to the ground. *sighs*
-
Its not the case here for being dry, but its too warm :(
If only it was 10-15 degrees colder...

-
Yeah, I saw that it was raining very early this morning, and I was wondering if there could be flurries or sleet, but that wasn't the case.
-
I'm finally seeing my first snowfall today YAY!  :D
-
Already 3 inches on the ground. Another 2-4 expected tonight.
-
I might see mine Friday!!!!!!
-
BUMP
For this year I think my area will probably see our first snowflakes around Late November (20th - 30th).
I think our first measurable snowfall will be sometime in mid December.
-
I'm betting we could see our first measurable snowfall in the next few weeks or so. Will it stick around? Not sure.
P.S. for those of you who don't know, I'm in Bozeman, Montana for the next year, not Buffalo (attending college at Montana State University).
-
Not completely sure here in Grand Forks, but probably the same time as Montana. :P I'm thinking near the end of the first week of October. I'll be cocky and put a date on it: Friday, October 6th.
-
I won't be surprised if it cold enough MA will see their 1st snowfall in early November (Mount Washington, NH doesn't count :P )
-
2nd week of November.
The first flakes? Last week of October I'll say.
-
The last week of Dec
-
February before I see a flake of any kind. I usually will see a flurry or two at least every winter, but rarely anything measurable.
-

Aw, come on Zach...where's your winter spirit? :P
I am not quite familiar with the "timing" of Norman's wintry precip, so I'll predict that sometime around mid-December will be our first snowfall.
-
Probably by mid November if not, by early December. Last year, we had one of our earliest snowfalls ever. It was Nov. 8th. Not surprising, I know
-
When hell freezes over :P
Aww i believe many of us in the deep south will see snow this year and will accumulate  , unlike last winter when I had snow showers that didnt stick :cry3: maybe around late december mid/late january and or early to mid February we may see snow in my area of Texas. we have been getting snow every year since 2008 and I have no doubt we wont see any this year, im sure of it :)

UGH, I hate winters like that where we only see a few snow showers/flurries and that's it although we haven't had a winter like that in years. What I hate even more is winters where we see more ice than snow. The icicles are pretty to look at, but it's nothing but an inconvenience. The last time we have a crippling icestorm was in January 29, 2005 and surprisingly we have had mostly nothing but snow the following winters since. Another surprise was how great last winter was snowfall wise, last winter was the first time I saw double digit snowfall, we picked up 10 inches total.
EDIT: Also I know we Southerners get made fun of for thinking 40's and 50's are cold, but do we get any merit for these temps? :P

@ weather lover: IKR i feel ya, our record snowfall ever was a mindboggling 30 inches from 1 storm way back in valentines day 1895 the most to ever fall anywhere on the gulf coast, althogh I personaly believe we will see at least 1 accumulating snowfall this winter, we may never see anything like that ever again lol.
-
40s and 50s dont scare me bring on the 10s and 20s lol weve had a whole week of teens and twentys for 2 winters in a row.

Just get outa here. Texas doesn't get that cold. Maybe northern Texas does, but since you said you were in Ike, you live near the coast. Give me your location so I can look up the weather data.
-
Seeing that the Greenland Block setup is likely again this year, I'd give it Late December and into January... We had several snow events this past year with the same setup, sticking and accumulating several times.

BUMP
I was torn about starting a new thread or not since this one is old.... :dunno:
First Flakes: December 28th, 2013
First Measurable Snowfall (T-1): January 4th, 2014
First Major Snowstorm or Icestorm
(For my area that would be 2 in. or greater for snow and 1/2 or greater in ice): January 20th, 2014
For a Bonus
First Frost/Freeze: October 30th, 2013
-
First snow (in the mountains): last week
First snow (on the valley floor): tomorrow, and if not tomorrow, Thursday.
-
I'll predict at least a dusting on November 11th.
-
I'll predict at least a dusting on November 11th.
Dude, I NAILED IT :thrilled:
We currently have a dusting, and may get an inch before all's said and done. Areas just east of me may get 3-6 inches of lake effect.
-
For the 2014-15 Winter I'm thinking around January 30th.
-
Hopefully never. I didn't move to Florida to shovel snow. :bleh:
