December 1989 Arctic Outbreak
« on: September 18, 2014, 01:52:36 AM »
I posted this on the TWCC Facebook page, but thought I'd post it here too.

I was extracting footage of Hurricane Hugo for the next update tonight, when I came across footage from that December. That gave me the idea to post footage of the famous arctic outbreak. However, I'm having trouble finding the exact dates of it. All sites I've found just say December. Can anyone give me the specific dates?

I don't the exact duration of the entire outbreak, but the peak/worst of it occurred on December 22nd & 23rd, 1989.

It was dubbed "The Christmas Freeze" and it lived up to its name. I remember highs in the 20s across southeast Louisiana and lows in the single digits north of Lake Pontchartrain/New Orleans.
