Recently, I've noticed that after a while of browsing YouTube in Firefox (version 3.0.4, Windows Vista), Firefox acts really unstable, and most often it crashes. I CAN get to YouTube no problem; but after a few minutes or so Firefox decides to crash. <_< I Google'd this issue, and it seems this has been an issue for other people recently, and apparently its cause is the new 16:9 YouTube player (it probably is seeing as I've never experienced this problem before). Anyone else having these issues with YT?

What a coincedence. I'm having that problem too. I thought it was just my crappy PC. Guess not.
-
Nope, no problems here.
-
Works fine for me as well. But Firefox crashes if I try to log into Facebook or my forum
-
It had been happening to me, too (both in Firefox and SeaMonkey). I found a workaround at MozillaZine, which seemed to work fine for me.

YouTube Workaround: If you are experiencing YouTube/Firefox crashing, try this suggested workaround. Add the following as a filter to either Adblock or Adblock Plus:
s.ytimg.com/yt/swf/PMS*.swf
Oh, and I had experienced the crashing problem before the 16:9 player debuted.

At least I use Internet Explorer.
But still, is there any way to hack YT to go back to 4:3?

Yeah I'm not a fan of the 16:9 display either.

You might as well quit crying about the 16:9 format - its the way of the future. Get used to it.
-
Which is why I'm not looking forward to the future...everything is going downhill these days.
-
I like the 16:9 format. I'm not sure what the big deal is.... :dunno:
-
You guys, there's like no difference between the 16:9 player and the 4:3 one other than its 16:9, what i'm getting at is it has the same height as the old player, its just wide, you're not loosing, you're gaining.

Vista.
"Well there's your problem right there!"
-
It's not my problem. You know I hate Vista with a passion.

And I have Vista and I'm not having any problems.

Thanks Billy, that fix worked fine for me.

I'm still trying to figure out how exactly to apply the fix...

You need to install the Adblock Plus extension (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865), then open the Adblock preferences and add "s.ytimg.com/yt/swf/PMS*.swf" as a filter. You may have to restart Firefox a few times during this process.

I'll take care of that later on then. I don't fel like going through the hassle of multiple restarts right now. :D

It only took one restart for me (which was to install the extension; applying the fix took effect without a restart). If you have Firefox 3, you can have it restore your tabs upon restart as well.
