Hey Gang! First off, happy holidays to you all. Hope you are all enjoying the winter break and having a great time with family and friends.
Anywho, these past few days of boredom have led me to watching this special on The History Channel, which can also be viewed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Utpcth_0tc&feature=related (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Utpcth_0tc&feature=related)
(SKIP AHEAD UNTIL ABOUT 1:50 TO GET THE JIST OF THE VIDEO -- OR JUST READ MY POST :bleh: )
For those of you who have yet to be familiar with this topic, scholars, historians and even scientists are now beginning to put a great deal of attention on the day 12/21/12 (winter solstice 2012).
This is what I've learned/taken from the video:
According to modern interpretation of the research, Ancient Mayan prophecies based on astronomical observations say that 12/21/12 will have significant importance. It's the day that the Mayan calender ends and completes it's full cycle...AND, modern astronomy (to this day) has indicated that GALACTIC ALIGNMENT will take place on this SAME day that the Mayan calender ends.
Apparently, Galactic Alignment is the alignment of the December solstice sun with the Galactic equator. This has become more important event due to the fact that in 2001 NASA did in fact discover a black hole in the middle of our galaxy, which makes the Galactic equator have much more importance and affects on Earth.
Initially, Galactic Alignment occurs every 26,000 years and the next alignment is expected to occur on the winter solstice of 2012 according to not only NASA, but also, eerily, the Mayan prophecies as well.
The video explains more about this, and will explain it better than I can of course. I highly suggest you watch.
And, according to FOX NEWS, many people actually are falling for this conspiracy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GijbbV58ecs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GijbbV58ecs)
So, my question to this message board is:
Do you believe in this, or do you think it's all a bunch of fluffed-up crap that is used to put programming on the history channel? Do you believe that science can really back these theories? Anything else you should point out about this conspiracy topic, please point it out!
Thanks guys,
Jae

Complete and utter bullshit.
-
I agree.
-
EDIT: Just another cult.
-
It makes for good reading and good TV, but nothing's gonna happen. It's just another day.

I'm gonna have to side with everyone else. IIRC, in the last few years of the 20th century, all you heard was that the end of the world was coming. Jesus was supposed to come back to earth and end mankind. Well, hate to break it to ya, but he didn't, and here we are eight years later.
Interesting stuff? Sure. Does it spell doom? I highly doubt it. They say this happens every 26,000 years. Again, hate to break it to ya, but the earth didn't go anywhere 26,00 years ago.

I have been hearing this lately in the past few months. In my opinion I think it's just a bunch a crap just to scare people. I'm a see it to believe it person, If it happens it happens, if it doesn't we can all go on with our lives as we normally do. I didn't understand it at the time, but wasn't Y2K a similar conspiracy? It's been 8 years and nothing has happened.

Yep, that's what I was talking about in my post. Apparently the Bible suggested that 2000 was the end of the world.

The worlds going to end! Like it was going to during that Y2K thing, I think this is just a scam to sell products , and a way just to air something on television.

As it did in 2006 as well.

Don't believe everything you hear! I may like watching the History Channel, but I don't believe everything they show. The next clip was Fox News. If you'd know its reputation, you'd know what I'm saying. Fox News is the Disney Channel for old people or conservative butthurts: It brainwashes them to believe in everything they say.

My thought is the same thought about the January 1, 2000 theory..not gonna happen..
-
Oh shit. I'm moving to Canada. Nothing ever happens there! I should be safe... right??

about that....
hahaha

SO basically it's supposed to mean the end of the world on that day?
-
My thoughts on this in a nutshell:

For me, I don't think its going to happen. But I guess some computers would then reset its self back to "Janurary 1, 1900."
