yeah sorry...I keep getting OCM and meterologist mixed up. On the flipside, I saw Scott Williams on WTXF recently. When did he leave TWC for our home station?

At some NWS offices they have their Doppler radar detect strong/severe thunderstorms all the time (like the offices in Spokane, WA or in Portland, OR) and at other offices the meteorologists detect the storms themselves all the time (like the office in Phoenix.)

I wonder why some offices have radars that detect severe weather and others have the meteorologists that detect the storms themselves

It's just different wording in the warning templates that each office has chosen.  Radar is a tool that helps meteorologists determine if a thunderstorm is severe or not.

Ahh, I understand now! Thanks

Hmm, that seller who had the 4000 on eBay now apparently has two of them, but they are certainly overpriced..

Also, I notice that the headend ID label is missing from it. Is this a decommissioned unit?

Yeah, I certainly wouldn't pay that, let alone half that for the condition it's in.

I was looking at different pictures of cable headends, and I came across this one. Apparently, this picture was taken in October 2009 of the Sunrise Communications headend near Onaway, MI. You can see that they still utilized the Weather Star Jr.

Also, here's their website:

I'm glad. This summer is terrible. Too hot, dry, lack of severe storms. I am looking forward to crisp autumn air and the start of school to keep my noggin content. Now that I think about it, it's not just summer but I can't believe I'm already done with my first year of college. I felt like I just began as a freshman yesterday

Unlike you all, I really haven't had a summer with all the work lately.  I'm still waiting for my vacation to come in a couple weeks. :hmm:
