Title: SyFy (formerly Sci-Fi Channel) to Broaden its Horizons
Post by: texasstooge on September 05, 2009, 10:15:59 AM
As we all know, The Sci-Fi Channel has been rebranded as SyFy. From there on, they're expecting to broaden its horizons including having a talk show (it better be reruns of "Space Ghost Coast To Coast") and having a cooking show. REALLY? A COOKING SHOW on SyFy? Hopefully it's all Bizarre foods my local Sci-Fi club can create for future Halloween Parties. I would much rather have that than "ECW Wrestling" on there.

Even Jimmy Kimmel is talking about it on Thursday Night's episode of his late night show.

I still don't understand why they changed their name. A talk show!? A cooking show!? Sigh. Another unique network sells out for ratings. :cry3:

I still don't understand why they changed their name.

I believe they said they couldn't trademark SciFi, so they changed to Syfy so the name was unique to where they could trademark.

I don't care either way...I watch pretty much only Discovery, the local NBC and CBS affils, and CNN/HLN.

i don't know, but the recent rebranding and expansion of shows that have nothing to do with the original network make it seem like they're falling under and trying new things to get viewers back...

i loved to watch the scifi channel, the syfy came long...i only watch warehouse 13 and eureka now. there the only shows worth watching.

Not since NBCU came in the picture.

If it was a licensing issue, then that makes sense. The only shows I've ever watched on Sci-Fi are the X-Files and Ghost Hunters. Nick told me last night that Cartoon Network has or is going to add reality shows. Wow.

And what's up with the Nick-At-Nite lineup? Is it just me or is it getting worse? Aside from the first two seasons of Family Matters (which is only shown late at night on the weekends), I don't watch it anymore. And I use to be a Nick-At-Nite addict.

I see the "Travel Channel" is showing "National Lampoon's Vacation" again. Ugh. :club:

Why doesn't Turner Broadcasting rename Cartoon Network "4Kids" since they're going that direction?

Cartoon Network is definetely not a "cartoon network" anymore. With the addition of these "real" shows, it really should be renamed.

And the cartoons that CN does show now are the most :censored: cartoons I have ever seen in my entire life. What a horrible channel!

Yah, the only classic cartoon they show during the day is Scooby Doo (but they show the same ones over and over). You have to stay up late to see Tom & Jerry. Other than that, all the real cartoons seem to be gone.

Ugh, I knew this would happen after they rebranded the channel.

No channel seems to stick with a specific genre anymore.

They're also making Scooby Doo a "real" show as well (with actors instead of cartoon characters).

I just went to my aunt's house in Mexicali and I noticed that the Syfy logo on the Sci-Fi channel hasnt been changed. I know they might do it soon.

I never understood why they did that (for the movies). It's not like the show wasn't already awesome in cartoon form. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! Although I did love the "pup" version of Scooby Doo in the late 80s.
