Swine Flu
« on: April 26, 2009, 09:47:48 PM »
Okay, people are seriously overreacting to this..  <_<  It's just like the basic flu!! But were not immune to it and there's no actual vaccine for this type of strain the recently mutated... yet..

Gosh, it's not like the Plague..

Here's one out of the thousands of articles about it on yahoo: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090427/ap_on_re_la_am_ca/med_swine_flu

but you don't understand that it can kill.

it's human nature to react like this when that type of virus is said to be spreading around the nation.

i agree, people are overreacting, but there's a reason to it.

There has been a couple of cases here in Extreme southern California. (none in Duck Centro yet). But yes I have to be careful. On second thought it can be a little exaggerating, but I still have to take the precautions.

I do live in a city that Mexico is 15 miles south, so I have to be careful to that as well.

Actually, most of those flu's will probably never be able to attain the ability to pass to humans.

As for this swine flu, while I do think its a medical emergency that needs to be carefully monitored, I don't think its going to start a full fledged pandemic. For one thing, several flu medications have been found to be effective in treating it. That's very important. Second, all of the swine flu cases seen outside of Mexico originated there, in most cases the poeple who became ill traveled there at some point. It will be crucial to see if this flu can now be spread from these already ill people to others who are totally unconnected to the outbreak. Third, this flu has been extremely mild in every country except Mexico. That's the only place where there have been deaths, and where there has been the most illness.

Lastly, keep in mind that all of our past pandemics occurred when medical care was rather primitive. This is 2009. Medical care has come so far since the last pandemic in the 60's that its hard to imagine another pandemic occurring, except under the most severe of circumstances.

Several countries have reported new cases, including Canada. :fire:
BTW I heard rumors last night that the pork in El Centro supermarkets will be removed due to this. I know that is not true.

there has been one possible case of swine flu at my school; reported today -- districts in around bexar county (hometown to san antonio) have been shut down by health commissioners and are advising everyone around the san antonio area to stay at home if you're not feeling well...

Only when you worry, does something bad happen...

There are mexicans at my school, though, so I will be more careful who I interact with.

Fortunately there are no known cases of the swine flu here, though I heard in NYC there were 18 people at a school who got sick.

They're several Cases of the Swine Influenza in my area. KUSD is even thinking about shutting down the schools. I think they are overreacting quite a bit.

No reports of the Swine Flu have been reported in my area... but I am being careful to who I talk with. I dont know, but maybe Lansing is infected? I go to Okemos Schools... which is kinda strict about people being ill...

It's common sense...wash your hands and avoid contact with sick people. People can't seem to use common precautions.

I'm not worrying about it much.. I'm going to be cautious more, but I'm not panicking.. If I get it.. well... all well.. I got it then. So what?
I hope our schools get closed because of it..  :P :thrilled:
