POWER MACINTOSH G3 NOT WORKING!
« on: January 22, 2009, 08:25:30 PM »
My Mac G3 Tower which is now in the basement would make my computer monitor give me a Out of Range message but when I plug the video output into my TV. The screen shows up but its comes up with a Kernel Panic screen.

When I reboot the mac with it still hooked up to the TV, it powers up just fine.

Uhh...what?

Is it a Beige G3? Kernel Panic is OS X. The A/V board is not compatible with OS X, except I've heard the video out works partially. Change the resolution, reset PRAM, etc.

Google it.

Its a Mac G3 With Mac OS X 10.3 Installed.

The Video connection to my TV was done by plugging the VGA cable into the VGA port on the back of my TV.
Wish I had a WeatherSTAR 4000. Brings back memories.

Mac G3 is not specific. There are/were half a dozen product lines under the name "Mac", that used the G3 processor.

In your case, its probably a resolution issue, if dealing with VGA.

OK

Just found out computer type

It is a Power Macintosh G3 (Tower)

ADDITIONAL INFO: When the Power Mac G3 boots just fine on the TV  I plug it back into my monitor and it displays on the monitor just fine at the highest possible resolution.

Most likely your tv cant support the resolution or refresh rate.

I believe that it is an issue with how you are connecting it to your T.V. or Too high of a Resolution. I don't think its an issue with the firmware (I don't know if it applies to PowerMac G3s) but I know on my iMacs I had to update my firmware to install anything after Mac OS X Puma.
