Post a screenshot of your desktop in this thread.
To start off, here's mine, running Windows XP Home Edition SP2. Sorry for the bad quality, but I had to save it as a JPEG file because apparently ImageShack no longer supports uploading PNG images. :(

Hmm, I just uploaded a PNG to ImageShack, and it worked fine.

Strange. When I uploaded my desktop as a PNG, it said the format was unsupported.

Maybe the file size was too big to be supported by ImageShack. Or maybe the PNG was corrupt...

Maybe. I uploaded another PNG image, and it worked fine. Weird.

So do I. Its one of XP's default backgrounds.

yah, i will definitely change it though, soon. :)

I usually use that one in the spring and summer, and then they have a fall one that I like to use in fall and winter.

A few days ago I was able to upload a PNG image on Imageshack.

It's a non-issue. It was just a fluke that Stephen wasn't able to upload a PNG that one time. He, and many others, have uploaded PNGs to Imageshack since then, and it's worked fine.

Here's mine (also a preview of my laptop's KSMI network control application)

That beats out my laptop... I get a 2.7 for the Windows Experience Index.
About the RAM amount. You mentioned it has onboard graphics...that's most likely the reason why it doesn't list a full 1 GB RAM.
-

Wow, seeing as yours is a 64-bit and mine's a 32-bit, I would've expected the opposite. :o It's not that much of a difference, though. B)

Yes, most likely.
-
Yes, so you're not actually getting the full amount of RAM. Now usually in the BIOS, you can set the amount of shared video memory. So if you're not planing on doing a lot of hardcore graphics applications like games, you can change it and utilize more of your memory :)

It's a Vista-only feature. So if you're running any other OS, you're out-of-luck.
If you do have Vista, it's Control Panel (or right click "Computer" > Properties) > System > click "Windows Experience Index"

Stephen, what does that binoculars icon on your Mac's menubar mean?
Here's my iBook's desktop running Mac OS 10.4.7, taken when we had the 2+ feet of snow back in '03.
(http://img110.imageshack.us/img110/4849/picture1kl9.th.png) (http://img110.imageshack.us/my.php?image=picture1kl9.png)
-
Stephen, what does that binoculars icon on your Mac's menubar mean?
That's Apple Remote Desktop. The technology coordinator can watch what we're doing (he doesn't watch all the time - we can click that binocular to find out) on the computer.
-
Sounds a little odd. I don't want anyone being able to watch what I'm doing whenever they feel like it.  :ninja:
-
Sounds a little odd. I don't want anyone being able to watch what I'm doing whenever they feel like it.  :ninja:
I can understand the reason why. They don't want people to abuse the technology and just playing around on the computers, or going on sites like MySpace, etc. with a proxy (but it does happen anyway sometimes). ;) Also, it can be used to troubleshoot a computer when he (the tech coordinator) can't come down to the classroom to fix it.

Correct.

I decided to do some tweaking to my computer, and found an objectdock for xp's...haha and I love it. what i love even more was that I was able to replace the previous weather icons on the dock with TWC's icons :D :

Here's my laptop desktop. It ain't anything too interesting.
-
Nice. I noticed you still use the old IE 6.0 browser
-
Its not THAT old. :whistling:
-
why does it matter? i didn't upgrade my ie until just recently.
-
i upgraded my IE 2 weeks ago. At first i didnt even know a new version came out but the newere version is faster, more convenient to use and has nice graphics. The only downside is that i have to keep logging in to the forums and my email and its very annoying. With my old browser, i stayed logged in. Plus my YouTube videos start to work after upgrading so i guess thats another plus.
Anyone know how my computer can keep me logged in to the sites i go to?
-
IE 7 isn't all that great. If you don't have IE 7 I'd suggest staying with IE 6.
-

i agree, as a matter a fact...i never actually upgraded my ie, it was done automatically when I upgraded from service pack 1 to service pack 2 (which was just recently) haha, yeah a little late...i'll probably download service pack 3 pretty soon.
-
IE 7 isn't all that great. If you don't have IE 7 I'd suggest staying with IE 6.
As far as I'm concerned no version of IE is all that great. I'm moving happily along with Firefox.
i never actually upgraded my ie, it was done automatically when I upgraded from service pack 1 to service pack 2
Actually, IE 7 is/was NOT included with SP2, and won't be with SP3 either. You must have installed IE 7 along with XP SP2.
-
i probably did, who knows. haha
-
I had Firefox for a short time but got confused by the features so i stuck with IE 7.
-
I agree with Stephen about Firefox. I think its a fantastic browser. Much better than any M@$*%&^ product. And he's right that it didn't come with SP2.
How were you confused Thunder? Firefox is very easy to use. IMO, IE is far more confusing. I got a chance to use IE 7 on my Mom's computer and I was extremely confused by it. Then again, that's generally the case for me with M!#^@$^#$ products. :whistling: <_<
-
I'm probably the only one who's mother cant use a computer. In this day and age, its hard to have parents who cant use a computer.
-
My mother can, but shes very bad at it. :P
My father's a whiz with computers. He got me into computers. :sunglasses:

I have that game for my Xbox. It's pretty realistic. I also have the first Burnout for Gamecube.
I also have a free game for my PC called Racer (http://racer.nl/). It has pretty neat features for a free game. You can also download free cars and tracks for the game.

Did anyone get the New Need for Speed game?
The only video games i have are car racing games and the Prince of Persia sands of time
-
i have Burnout 3 for the Wii.
Why aren't I surprised to hear that you have a Wii. :whistling:

I was going to, but I decided not to.

Sheesh, just asking <_<
You have to use logic. If someone lives in the U.S., chances are they aren't going to work for a Candian company. That's just common sense.

Kyle lives in Canada but yet he works for some program for TWC in Atlanta.

-
i wish i had a mac :(
I thought you said you hated Macs?
I hate them because of the design but i like the interface/program capabilities
-
I love their design. Its part of what makes a Mac a Mac. Without their design, it would look like any run-of-the-mill PC, which is not good. I'm actually reading a biography on Steve Jobs right now. Very interesting stuff.
-
I likw Macs because they dont take that much memory/RAM that PCs do. Also more programs are oriented on Macs like itunes, original Helvetica font, and Tunatic. Tunatic can record music on macs while playing on the computer as opposed to a microphone on PCs
-
I noticed that you've got the TWN logos on your desktop... Working on some TWN projects?
I didn't see any TWN logos on his desktop.
I likw Macs because they dont take that much memory/RAM that PCs do.
They take up about the same amount. The newest Macs come with at least 512 MB or 1 GB of RAM, and PC's nowadays are about the same, too.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: It won't cost you a dime if you know where to look. And besides, it's definitely worth the money it costs. Have you ever even USED photoshop before? It's capable of things GIMP could NEVER do for free.

You did the Hackintosh? I heard they are really unstable.
Yes, kinda, in a virtual machine. It actually works quite well, in my experience. Of course, it's slower than a real Mac, but the speed is quite acceptable. It also has internet support, and I can mount shared folders from the host OS onto Mac OS X. :)

Where you make a virtual machine for it, on the physical drive, then boot from it?

Notice the About this Mac screen incorrectly identifies the processor (it's really an AMD Mobile Sempron). The Apple System Profiler correctly identifies it, though.
It's also worth noting that programs actually WORK on this one. With my 10.4.1 disk image, any programs I installed that didn't come with the image would simply bounce on the dock one time and do nothing (which is why I got a new disk image). This one works fine, thankfully, and is much more up-to-date. :)

Vista, because my previous XP installation curled up and died to the point where I couldn't even restore it from the recovery partition, so I loaded Vista on it until I could get XP and load it up on this machine again.

I'm leaning towards Fedora on that...

Yes, Fedora 9.

Fedora! WOOT! Fedora was the first Linux/UNIX system I ever used, back when it was called Fedora Core 3. Sure has come a long way.
I hate Linux with a passion though. I cannot figure anything out.

My laptop's desktop, now with Windows XP:
That didn't last too long. :P I had to put Vista back on this machine because XP couldn't activate - so I'd be unable to use it after 30 days. I realize there are ways to disable that but I'd like to keep it legal. ;) So back to Vista I go.
(http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/7724/vistadesknov08jf5.th.jpg) (http://img529.imageshack.us/my.php?image=vistadesknov08jf5.jpg)(http://img529.imageshack.us/images/thpix.gif) (http://g.imageshack.us/thpix.php)
I actually restored it back to Vista by not using the Recovery software on my Recovery partition, but with the Vista Restore disc that shipped with my laptop. It actually installed a clean copy of Vista, with no Dell crap on it (though there is still some Dell branding in certain places). It was also pre-activated since it belongs to this machine. Oddly enough it seems to be quite faster than the Vista installation it shipped with (and the installation it reverts back to if I had used the recovery partition method) - and I guess I can attribute that to it being a basically stock install of Vista (although I have installed the updates including SP1). Overall so far it's running great, and I hope it stays that way. *knocks on wood* :ninja:

What's x64?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X86-64 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X86-64)

A 64bit operating systems, for computers with CPU's that support 64-bit. B)
-
So you have to installl a special version of the OS for a 64 bit computer? That's fucked up, on so many levels.
-
It's specially tailored to 64 bit computers, so it runs better. B)
-
That's ridiculous. An OS should come with everything it needs, to run optimally on all of the architectures it supports. Having a separate version is insane.
I guess that's one my reason why Microsoft is simply: horrible. :rofl2:
-

Lol, I usually agree that Microsoft sucks, but it's not them. They all have to have different versions because of the whole new architecture. New drivers, and new OS. It's like saying "Let me run this XBOX 360 OS on my computer.. oh wait its a different architecture." Now, the new x64 processors do have backwards compatibility for x86 (32-bit) so you don't have to change anything that you do now.
-
The whole x86 architecture should've been scrapped in the early 90's like Intel has original planned.

Uh oh Chris, what are you really looking at? :bleh:
Gil, 64bit are for computers that have more than 4gb RAM. Back in the day nobody would have expected computers to reach the levels they did. Not really MS fault. Yes ive used 64bit for several years now. Glad i made the change.

Yeah but Mac OS X includes that in the package. you don't have to install a special version just to utilize 64 bit.

How did we (the community) get the Xlv2 background image? I just find it interesting that TWC would release something like that.

I think someone re-designed it and made it public.

Microsoft Windows 7 BUild 7000 Desktop (Microsoft Aero disabled). :bleh:
-
Why would disable Aero in W7? It runs much better than Vista
-
I heard Windows 7 (right now) sucks no less than Vista. Lots of Mac copying going on as well.
Makes me wonder whether MS will ever bounce back after the Vista disaster.
-
Windows 7 is a LOT better than Vista. I compare this to when Windows ME came out, it was a pile and then XP came out and it was like 100% better. Even for a BETA Windows 7 is great. Also, there's not much OSX copying, it's just fanboys getting upset that it kinda looks like it even though its a lot different.

Downloading it now!

I personally like Windows 7 and this is coming from a die hard Mac fanboy. It is much better than Vista and it takes a lot less computer power to drive it. I'm running it on an older Compaq Evo W6000 Workstation, Dual Xeons at 2.4GHz and 512MB RAM, the processor is great but for it to be running great on only 512MB of RAM says something.
However I am still partial to my Macs
-
I heard some people installed it on Pentium 3's and it worked pretty good.
-
Why would disable Aero in W7? It runs much better than Vista
Its disabled due to my 128 SiS 760 Chipset/Mirage. I must say, if you want Aero and intense graphics, go with ATI or Nvida, SiS sucks... badly :hmm:

I still fail to see the appeal of netbooks, other than small and greater portability.
That IS the appeal, and that it's cheap. A co-worker bought an HP Mini for his wife because all she does is browse the net and she loves it. It only cost $299!

actually about to download the release canidate for 7 and run it in VPC

My School’s typical student desktop*:
*Resolution is 1024x768, since these computers have deepfreeze , it will reset itself back to its resolution when restarted
-
My school's PC's are so heavily locked down, that they are barely useable. They've even disabled the File Menu.
The Macs on the other hand, are hardly locked down at all - except they can see what's on your screen.
-
yeah, sorta the same here...the only restrictions i know of are is that the my documents is not accessible, and neither is the clock/date settings, you can't right click on programs to close it at the bottom, and that's about it.
on macs; they haven't figured out a way to put restrictions. muhahaha. they will over the summer though, no doubt.
-
Its really lame at the stuff schools lock on computers these days. <_<
-
Our computers have sorta the same restrictions except you can acess My Documents. The thing is that we have this stupid program on all student computers called Deep Freeze that if you change anything, when the computer restarts, all settings and files are reset (Exept anything in the My Documents folder)
As for Macs, we dont have macs.

It takes time to be at the same level as everyone to learn about computer technology. Heck, my mom thinks I am a technology expert!
BTW xoap.weather.com is, in my perspective, a site where it had old TWC stuff stored...Josh showed me a link of that the other night.

On my new computer my dad gave me (he built it)
Josh, I just had to say I love your avatar! That brings back many memories of Elementary/Middle School when we used Netscape 3.01 Gold on old PowerMac 5400/5500s. *sigh* *tear*
Kinda like at when I went to elementary school in California, they had iMac G3's and old powermacs, the G3's had 9.2 and the powermacs had 8 I believe... I kinda liked using netscape though, until AOHell took them and discontinued them... I know this is an old reply though, I just never got to it... :P

lol whenever my desktop computer is running (next to always), that Pinnacle window is open. The only reason it was minimized was to show my desktop :P
How can you tell the software version is outdated?
-
If you're using the PCTV brand of Pinnacles, then it is outdated because that was the icon I saw before I upgraded my software to get this icon (attached).
As for other brands of Pinnacles, not sure.

Wow, looking at that picture, I hate the look of Windows 7. Awful; way too much like Macs. Vista works fine for me

LOL! No, Actually I Downloaded the Toolbar At The Top Seperate From 7. It Did Not Come With It. It's Called the RocketDock. It Is On Mac's As Well. I Just Thought It Looked Cool! LOL

Wow, looking at that picture, I hate the look of Windows 7. Awful; way too much like Macs. Vista works fine for me
There actually aren't too many differences in the UI from Vista to 7, other than the taskbar and a few other things (like explorer windows), which actually make it easier to work with. I think you'll like 7 when you actually use it for yourself.
BTW: That dock at the top doesn't come with Windows 7. (if that was what you were referring to as it looking like a Mac)

I love 7! I just hate the Office 2010 icons...they're just plain ugly. And people who have issues with seeing colors correctly will likely have issues distinguishing between the programs with just seeing a letter in the 162 icons. Design fail from Microsoft...is that a surprise?

You've stolen the words right out of my mouth. Northern Michigan is very scenic, serene, and peaceful. On top of that, it's XL and Charter territory. It's a win-win! :P
And this is actually a real machine, not a virtual machine.
As primitive as Windows 98 is to many now, I always loved the Windows 98 startup sound. And for some reason, I love the older, classic look. Just takes me back. Problem is, Windows 98 does not do well with pages that require excessive usage of flash (i.e. youtube... weather.com  :whistling: ).

It doesn't, they are now called "Desktop Gadgets" and (like Gadgets in Windows Vista) be anywhere on the desktop (but with Vista, the sidebar had to be up for them to even be on the screen) , but the gadgets can "dock" to any of the four sides of the screen.

It now runs launch, the .exe macro, showing a screen that says that it will launch in 45 seconds, then launch the nf app, go to second monitor (RCA Out, right screen), and input my ID, and launch the program...
It also restarts (restart.bat) every day at midnight!

Here's something new for you guys... Windows 8 Milestone 1
Note, it does say Windows 7, but that's because it is a milestone. Microsoft is just building onto 7, so nothing really significant has changed. But still, it's pretty neat to see how things are progressing. They redid the Aero Basic theme a little bit (Note the icons look a little bigger, and the text is centered on the info bar).

GTAIVman, you can either shrink your picture down before posting it directly, make it an attachment to your post rather than placing it as an image within your post, or use [img width=xxx height=xxx] in the HTML coding to shrink the picture down in the post itself.

A former classmate of mine had that same desktop as you do (except the background and all that weather gadgets and stuff), is that some sort of downloadable feature where you can get that Mac-like taskbar on your computer?
And Patrick beat me to showing you how to post images. bahaha. xD

It's not an official Apple store; it's basically a computer repair shop that specializes in fixing up old Apple computers (they are an Apple authorized reseller) and sells them at discounted prices, although they do offer several newer models as well. They even had an iMac G5, a PowerBook G4 and several Power Mac G4 towers on display there as well.
Even though this MacBook is "old", it runs and looks almost as if it were new. There are no major defects in the case and no discoloration at all (which was pretty common in these models), and with the RAM maxed out at 2 GB, it runs OS X Snow Leopard quite satisfactorily. Depending on what I'm doing, I can easily get at least 2 and a half hours of battery life, which is nice.

Fresh install of XP on my Dell Dimension 3000 desktop PC. I've been meaning to reformat this for quite sometime (several years, infact) because the install had become quite cluttered and very bogged down. I've been unable to do that until today because neither of the optical drives (CD-RW or DVD) would work, so I couldn't reinstall from my restore CD. However, recently I opened up the case and replaced one of the drives with one I cannibalized from my old HP Pavilion PC, which works perfectly fine. :)
Hopefully soon I will be purchasing a new monitor for this machine; a 10x7 screen just doesn't cut it these days.

This is my other desktop, which still has the Consumer Preview of Windows 8. I really don't use it much for personal use (hence why IE is the only browser installed :P), but I do run an IRC server, a Twitter weather bot, a Wunderground weather radio stream for my area and any video streaming I do with it.
Also, because it powers the main wifi, I send it through my UPS (hence the battery icon on a desktop :bleh:). I have a CAT6 ethernet cable to bridge the connection over to my main desktop.
Finally, I thought the Windows 7 background looked better, so that's why I have that set as the background.

Probably the last thing an actual pilot should ever do, but still...I found this awesome. Made by a Russian photoshop professional.

Indeed it is. Good eye!

This is the desktop on my laptop. I don't have a fancy background because I'm much too lazy to change it... :whistling2:
There were a lot of folders I had on my desktop, but I removed them from this snapshot (thanks to me having Photoshop) because none of you need to see my personal folders and the things I like to do for a living on my computer besides recording and editing TWC clips :P
-
Hehe, I would know because it's a Lufthansa bird. They are the only 748i operator at the moment, and presently they fly the aircraft on their FRA - IAD route, so seeing it in a Russian setting is a little surprising (then again it was Photshopped :P )
-
I've had this up for a couple of weeks. It's about to be changed again.
-
Current desktop... I temporarily have it on classic due to issues with my graphics card.

A random Google picture I found, you might notice the Dell Dock is missing. I almost had a virus attack my desktop last week and ever since the Dell Dock has been corrupted so I uninstalled it temporarily until I can find the CD to re install it. I thought it was with my other Windows 7 and Photoshop/Premiere Elements CDs , but apparently it's not.

New computer, new desktop. A tribute to one of my more favorite movie villains, Rattlesnake Jake from Rango.
-
Here's my updated desktop as of today, with a new background. Can you guess where I got it from?
Also, as before, all of the folders I had on my desktop have been Photoshopped out of the picture. All of you should know why I did that :P

Now with dwm on my old box:

X currently runs at 1024*768 because I had to revert to the vesa driver, due to the nv driver having a problem with window borders. I could not get nouveau to work.

I like my desktop clean...absolutely nothing on it.
I took the picture when I went Downtown last weekend.

I like my desktop clean as well.. just not purely clean :P Well, the image still shows my liking to something.. :blushing:

Here's an updated version of my laptop's desktop. That pic in the background was taken by myself a few months ago over by North Head Lighthouse, located on the southwestern tip of Washington state.

Tis my desktop.
Some of you may ask, "Didn't you had windows 7 before?" What happened was that my laptop finally gave in after three and a half years and I'm using the old Vista PC again. It's slightly upgraded & everything, but I do miss the eye candy that is Windows 7 (and 8, had the release preview installed as well).
I'm a hardcore brony, btw. Just showing off my brony side. :)

You know, you can hit the "Print Screen" key on your keyboard to take a screenshot and paste that into Paint to save it instead of taking a camera shot of your monitor. Just a tip.

New FvwmButtons config:

[2013-05-03T10:48-0700] Update: Changes since the previous screen shot I posted here:
- I changed the colours in FvwmPager and added the desk label.
- I changed the SeaMonkey button to use an old Netscape icon instead of the Mozilla one. (Slackware already includes the Netscape icon.)
- I added a "Lock" button to tell XScreenSaver to lock the screen.
- I somehow (http://wlair.us.to/blog/2013/05/02/xbiff-gmail/) managed to get xbiff to work with Gmail, therefore I added it to FvwmButtons.
- I shrank FvwmButtons to a smaller size because it was getting too large. Therefore, I renamed the "SeaMonkey" button to "Mozilla". (It still points to SeaMonkey.)

Decided to get a screenshot of all of my computers plus my phone's home screen.
From top to bottom:
My Windows 7 machine. Had to get this after my old XP machine's power supply failed.
Of course, my Mac, with the default Mavericks desktop.
The XP machine whose power supply failed but miraculously came back to life. Currently searching for one online before the old one dies again. And of course, I have to show House of Cards some love.
My netbook, which since October has been running a Linux distribution called Peppermint. It's based on Ubuntu and designed for such computers with limited specs.
And lastly, my phone. I've condensed all of my apps onto one screen for the sake of cleanliness.

Haven't posted mine in a while...I recently installed Ubuntu on this machine (HP Stream 11) last year. It runs beautifully - however I did have some hiccups with it at first, but other than that, I've had no complaints.
Figured I'd show Rick and Morty some love - I'd say it's one of the best shows I've watched in a long time... :)

So here's my screen. This is actually my backup laptop, A.K.A. MacBook Pro Mid-2012. My main computer is a Surface Book. The bad thing is, I made a pretty bad mistake and I broke the SSD and now I have to take it to the Microsoft Store for repairs. In the screenshot, you'll just see 2 folders I never use anyways.
