You Tube subscribers...
« on: May 21, 2012, 06:22:43 PM »
This topic might not be very interesting, but the number of subscribers on my you tube channel have was once over 320 and has since dropped in 297. How could that be and does that happen to anyone else who has a you tube channel (with your own uploaded videos)?

Depending on how long ago it was at 320, that's not unusual. Obviously some people have either unsubscribed from you, deleted their account, or got their account closed due to a terms of use violation. I'm sure if I paid attention to mine, I'd see that it's gone down too.

Whoa, now that you mention it...I just noticed that I lost about 20 subscribers on my firealarm211 account. I think YT deleted all of the inactive subscribers off of the YT channels.

I went from 620 to 570 subscribers at one point, but the number has gone up now. Obviously for the same reasons you might see your friends list on FB decrease/increase: people defriending you, or accounts being deleted

What I've noticed on my other Youtube channel (user/GTAIVman), ever since they updated the channels back in March, the number of subscribers I had decreased about 40 subs. I believe this is just Youtube that's not counting the accounts that no longer exist like ones that got suspended, closed etc.

I know. :fear: I just cringe when that happens because I don't like being unfriended or when my friends deactivate or delete their accounts, because I can't keep up with that they are doing anymore. Also, three friends blocked me, one of which initially unfriended me and blocked me three weeks later, two of these friends, however, continue to follow me on twitter. :dunno: BTW, my number of subscibers have dropped again. Down to 294, now.

There are videos going around suggesting Youtube is actually deleting accounts deemed "inactive." It's apparently part of their newest "Terms of Use." If you do find a video, beware because most of them are excessively profane.

The only time I've heard of this is from conspiracy nut Alex Jones (aka the guy that had that creepy interview with Charlie Sheen after he went nuts). Even if they're deleting inactive accounts, so what? I did the same on my message board.

Do you have to create a Google account to have a YouTube account now?  I had a YT account awhile back (and probably still do), but I can't use it anymore because I'm getting a notice that I need to create a Google account to link the two, and I do NOT under any circumstances want to create a Google account. :nono:

I haven't paid attention to the number of my subscribers, but what I've noticed go down is overall viewership. That's for another topic, though.

Yes you do. And if YT wasn't such a great marketing tool for my site, I wouldn't have tied my Google account to my YT account.

I don't blame you, I didn't want to create a google account, either, but thought I had no choice, because, yes, I think a Google account is required to have a YT account, now, unfortunately.  I never use my Google account for anything, although I have a back-up gmail e-mail adress, which isn't the one I use.

BTW, my number of subscribers is now down to 289 and continues to drop every day.  :(

And, what irks me is that whenever I switch Google accounts (I have multiple emails under different domains that use Gmail), the accounts switch on YouTube too. <_<
