Alright, I need some help from the iPod experts amongst us. I got an iPod Nano (2nd Gen) for free a couple of days ago, and I'm having a little trouble with it. I've installed iTunes on my laptop, and yesterday I purchased a USB charging/transfer cable at Wal-Mart. However, when I plug the iPod into my laptop, nothing happens. I thought maybe the USB ports on the laptop weren't powerful enough, so I also tried everything on the desktop, with the same result. The iPod shows that it's charging, so the cable evidently isn't the problem. Is there something else I have to do to get the computer and/or iTunes to recognize the Nano?

Check Device Manager first (right-click on My Computer, choose Manage, and then select Device Manager). Is there anything listed there?
Try reseting the device
1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
2. Press and hold the Menu and Center (Select) buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds.

Have you tried resetting the iPod? Press and hold on the center wheel until the ipod screen turns off and the apple logo appears.

Does it show up in iTunes? It may be Mac Formatted, in which case, you'd have to use the utility (somwhere on Apple's support site) so that it will work on Windows.
I have a lot more tips, just in case that doesn't work.

(Note the above will erase anything on the nano)
No it won't.

No, it does not appear in iTunes nor in Device Manager. I did the restart thing suggested by Martin, and that seems to have done the trick! B)
Thank you all for your help! B)
