Hiya!

Thanks very much!  You are way to sweet!   :D

I'm Andrea, and I'm a news producer/weather writer.  I'm currently in between producing jobs, but I'm freelancing for the Examiner.com as their Tampa Weather Examiner.

I am a self-proclaimed weather nerd and trained spotter with the National Weather Service.

Love the site!
And, feel free to follow me on Twitter!  I'd love to hear from ya!

ETA:  I just moved back to Florida from Phoenix, Arizona.  I'd love to chat monsoon with any Arizona peeps out there!  That's probably the most interesting weather experience I've ever had!

I live close by to Arizona, and I do get some monsoonal storms here, just not that much as Phoenix or any other Arizona city does.

Hey everyone!

I've probably introduced myself before, but I figure I'd do it again in this thread.

My name's Mel, and I've been a wx nerd since elementary school.  I've been a TWC nerd since then as well.  The local forecasts actually helped me increase my reading speeds back when I was younger.  My father's vision's not-so-great, so I'd read them out loud to him (until the narration came along... taking my job, weather channel... grr.   ;) ) and it really did work.  Without that, I don't think I could read as fast as I do today.

Anyway, I hope to talk to you all more, and have a great day!

Anistorm ~ Oh, sweet!  Where near Arizona do you live?  Technically, I lived in Glendale, and was there for 2 years.  I worked for the CBS affiliate there.  I think a monsoon storm is an awesome experience.  The dust storms, the lightning, etc.  Storms there are much different than here in Florida.

Mames ~ That's awesome about Local on the 8s helping you read!  I used to watch TWC 24/7 when I was in high school!

I live 50 miles west of Yuma (I live in the deserts of CA btw) I've heard of Glendale, My boyfriend has family there.
Yes I've been through those...more recently dust storms. Recently like a month ago or so, a huge windstorm came through here...the winds were so strong the branches from my tree's backyard fell right next to my house!
I havent seen rain at all this season, overall I've seen lightning various times.

Hello,
Thanks for the warm welcome I received in the other thread.
My names Dave. I grew up in NJ, but moved to KY for about 15 years now. The weather here in KY is much more interesting than NJ. Since I was young I have been fascinated with the weather. Two years ago my wife got me a personal weather station for Christmas and I notices that I could upload my info to the internet. Getting carried away with things like I usually do, now I have a full blown website serving my local community - Cave Country Weather. com.

I will have to read a bit around here to get to know you guys.

I started out with a LaCrosse 2310 station, but went through 3 of them in a year and a half. Just bought the Davis Vantage Pro 2 wireless 4 months ago and I really like it. I believe that it is the same as yours except with out the solar and UV. I hope to add these sensors in the future.

The website is relatively cheep. The software is $70 and web-hosting is $20 per year. The template is free. (or donation) If you are interested I can point you in the right direction.

Hi!

My Name Is Trevor. I'm A "Newbie". Other Than Weather And TWC, I Am Interested In Tornado Sirens, Fire Alarms, Computers, And Elevators. I Live In Southaven, MS, Just South Of Memphis, TN. I Have DirecTV, So I Get The Satellite Local Forecast From Channel 362. I Have 2 YouTube Accounts. The One For TWC Videos Is TWCFreak. The One For All Of My Other Videos Is Firealarm211. I Am A Meterologist On Bolt Weather. I only Have 1 Question: How Do You Get A Personalized LDL Bar? I Don't Have PPT, So I Made One On Paint. It Looked OK. I Went To Put It Into My Signature, And It Was HUGE! It Took Up The Whole Page!

Thanks,

Hey Trevor! Glad you joined the forums. Many of the LDL images you see were created by Jesse (jtmal0723). You can try sending him a PM and he can probably make one for you. :)

Hey Drobbins, I'm from NJ also... where in the state did you live?

Hello! Just discovered this site, didn't know there was such a huge TWC and Weatherstar/scan/XL/Intellistar fan base! and I thought I was weird for liking that stuff ;p  Anyway, I am James.  Love severe weather and weatherscan.  Eagerly awaiting a username and password so I can play around with the emulator since I don't get that channel.  In the meantime, how's it going to those who read this?

Hi there.

My name is Joey and I am a senior in high school in Augusta, GA. I have always been passionate about the weather, ever since I was about 10 years old and was caught in my first hail storm (luckily in the car).

After a year or two of city college for core classes, my plans are to go to the University of Georgia to double major in Broadcast Journalism and Mass Communications. It has always been my dream to either be a Meteorologist, News Anchor, or Radio DJ. I'd love to do all three sometime in my life if I ever get the chance.

Right now, I am interning at WRDW-TV in Augusta, GA for my senior project, where I have spent nearly 8 months learning all I can about the news business.

I also have my own blog at my local newspaper's website, AugustaChronicle.com, called "Licensed to Gill".
http://www.augustachronicle.com/blogs/licensed-gill

I am excited to be here at TWCToday. I have watched TWC for years, and I am pleased to meet other Weather Channel fans just like me.

I can be followed on Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/joeymgill

Well thanks, and once again, it's great to meet you all.

You can call me tenkitsune or Cloud. I am almost a Sophomore in college. I am majoring in Physical Science and possibly minoring in Journalism, mainly broadcast. I, too, am interested in becoming a meteorologist. I plan on going to Graduate school for meteorology, but I suppose my physics classes next semester will help me decide if I'm keeping my major. I'm very interested in the weather around us. I've always wanted to be the person telling everyone to get down if there's a tornado. I really don't know why. :P
But other than that, I like to play video games and attempt to play guitar. And that's me. So, hello TWC Today people! :D

Yeah, I live in two locations since I live on campus during the week and at home during the weekend. At home, I live in a small community where they haven't switched from the WeatherStar Jr. I can remember it being on there since I was little. I thought it was rather interesting how when I looked it up, it said that only very small communities have WeatherSTAR Jr., so I kinda feel special. :P
On campus, where I get Suddenlink, we do have Intellistar. If I can figure out how I could contribute some of what I get here at home, I'd be more than happy to do so. Thanks for the welcomes! :)

you can use a camera , tv tuner or DVD recorder... Using a camera should be straightforwarded just use the USB and upload the video here after processing. TV Tuners/DVD Recorders a bit more complex but produce better video quality

I could try, but the only camera I have doesn't work. Although I could use my sister's camera. She never uses it. ;)

I'll try to get on that, although I'll probably have to wait until after finals.

Anyways, thanks again for the welcomes, everyone. :)

Hello, I know Martin thanks to Twitter, but I don't know the rest of you. :)

Welcome to the forums!  Hope you have a great time here, and let us know if you need any help with anything.

I'm kind of new, as I once used to prow around twcclassics 24/7.  But seeing as this is a completely new board, I imagine there are a ton of you who don't know me, and a ton of you whom I don't know.

My name is Dylan Edwards (Add me on facebook if you please) and I recently graduated from High School ('10!!).  I live in Topeka, Kansas and have been a fan of TWC for quiet some time.  In addition the TWC my other interests are Photography, Weather, and Tornado Sirens...yeah sirens.  They have been an interest of mine longer than TWC.  My Favorite weatherstar is the XL (New version)...and yeah...that's me!  :thrilled:

I came here, originally, because of TWC Classics, for tunes on The Weather Channel. ;)

But, I'm a weather freak, so much that I got my own temperature reading at my place!

Hey-o, TWC Today! I am plane852, a high school senior from Tennessee who has a nearly obsessive compassion for the weather and the Weather Channel. My dream job is to be a forecaster for the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, OK, and I have planned all my classes for the next couple years to get me into that career. In case you don't know what the Storm Prediction Center is, it is a branch of the National Weather Service that posts thunderstorms and, more importantly, severe weather. It is also responsible for issuing weather watches for the Lower 48.

My goal here is to contribute as much as possible, whether it be with posts or emulators or pictures or videos (I almost shot video on June 24, 2010, when I got caught on State Street when the tornado sirens went off in Chicago, but my battery died.  :censored:) It is an honor to be in a site like this, and you won't see me leaving anytime soon, even after college. Who knows? Maybe I'll be in the same position as Patrick (jk, Patrick knows more than I ever will ).

Hello all. I've always liked TWC & started watching it in 1990 (was that the 3000 or 4000 days?). There was a big gap in time when I didn't have access to the channel from about 1994 to late 2002, so it seems I missed several STAR updates. I never forget the music though. Perfect playlists with the forecast. The voice kinda screws it up for me but I understand it needs to be there. I miss the STARs that had the clock showing the full date with time down to the seconds. Seeing the load of videos on-line certainly brings nostalgia feelings. Thanks to some of the videos on YouTube I saw, I started buying the music I hear, now that I know who they are. I don't know the mets very well, though my favourite of the ones I see currently is S Abrams.

:welcome: to the forums, Adam! It's nice to have another member here.

As far as I know, early 1990 was still the III (3000) days, until the 4000 came out later that year.

Stephanie Abrams is also my favorite OCM, so I guess we already agree with something! :thrilled:

And forget to change your location, since it doesn't display correctly. You don't need to spell the state out; just put the postal code.

Anyway, welcome. I hope you have a great time here! :)

I've posted here for a little while, but never really introduced myself till now. Some of you might already know me thru my YouTube channel, but here it gos anyway:

**copied & pasted from Stygian Sounds (heavy metal net station) messageboard**

Name: Alex
Age: 31
Sex: Male
Location: Bennington VT, USA
Interests: Pretty much anything to do w/heavy metal and football. I also like to play basketball and am also a big weather buff.
Favorite Band: Nevermore
Favorite Album: Nevermore - Dreaming Neon Black
Favorite Song: Dream Theater - "Learning to Live"
Background: I've worked as a drafter, waver, and assembly line technician off and on over the past 10 years. I'm disabled right now as I continue to rehab from injuries suffered on a Charlotte, NC interstate on 8/25/2010. I've been listening to metal since 2000, and I even like...get this...some smooth jazz once in a while, as that's the style of music I use in my Weather Channel Local Forecast Emulations posted on my Facebook page & YouTube channel.

howdy!
I'm Jennifer.  I was around when the first TWC website went online and even before then (2004)!  I must say, I'm happy to see the websites still around after all these years.  Makes me feel darn old.
I wish I could say that I know what the weather channel has been up to lately, sadly I do not.  I haven't seen a Weather Channel broadcast in 3 years because the US Military sent us to Okinawa Japan. I get to rely on Kadena Air Base for weather :P.

The upside is, I've been through some typhoons

Hope y'all have a great day!

You really don't want to turn on TWC if you don't want to be disappointed. They've really gone downhill, and many OCMs have been let go since you went to Japan.

Hi everyone! Just signed up today, but have been a Weather Channel lover since winter 95/96 when my hometown of Greensboro, NC got hammered with snow! I'd watch it trying to figure out if I'd have school the next day! Of course, as is the case with many Weather Channel enthusiasts, I gained a huge interest in "Local on the 8s" and their music! Been watching ever since!

I have a question to ask, but don't know which forum to ask it on. Its about the Local on the 8s music. There was a song in the winter of 1996 that just stuck in my head for the longest time. I never heard it again for many years, but then in the late summer of 2004 or 2005, out of nowhere, the song from 1996 played on Local on the 8s!! Then I remember reading an article on this site, I think, about the weather instrument (Im a newbie :) ) being used at the time, 2004 or 2005, having technical glitches, and TWC having to use their old system and music for a brief period of time. Im wondering if that could have been my song repeat, and will get me one step closer to finding the song/artist!!

Thank you so much! And let me know if my question should be better asked in another forum!

Welcome to the forums! This topic (https://twctodayforums.com/forums/local-forecast/requesting-help-with-finding-a-song-3173/) that Martin (one of our administrators) posted should help you figure out how to find a song. Good luck!

Thanks for that link Trevor! Im going to start listening......I read some of the criteria that helps identify a song.....this one that I'm working on had a phychedelic tune to it (no identifiable instrument), it sounded similar to the instrument in the song "Days End" track number 33 from the Weatherscan music......and the repeat was in August/September of either 2004 or 2005.

Welcome to the forums! You can try posting in the classic forums "Local forecast" (1982-1999). I'm sure they'll be able to help you out.

Now you said the song was a repeat. You mean it played in 1996 and then again in 2004 or 2005 of those months? I don't see any matching songs it was likely that it was one of the Trammell Songs that played on the emergency feed back then
Title: Re: Introduce Yourself! (For New Members) (including a Comcast rant)
Post by: Nathan - a.k.a. NWRGeek on July 24, 2012, 11:41:37 AM
Hello all! I am Nathan, a newer enthusiast to the TWC community, living in Dracut, Massachusetts. You may already know me as elevatorsonly (http://www.youtube.com/elevatorsonly) and NWRGeek (http://www.youtube.com/nwrgeek) on Youtube. In case you haven't seen my videos across those 2 accounts, I am one of hundreds (possibly thousands) of elevator enthusiasts and a NOAA Weather Radio enthusiast as well. I joined the forum back on July 20, which is the same day I posted this video of my local Weatherscan channel to Youtube:
Boston, MA Weatherscan - Crapcast - July 16, 2012, 10:41 PM (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnPUzxDCWfs#ws)
(yay for Crapcast! [you can see the sarcasm])

Now for my Comcast rant...
As you can tell, I have Crapcast, which is a legal monopoly in Dracut ( ), meaning that you can only get that (or satellite) in town. Comcast sucks here - there are SEVERAL issues - internet is slow on frequent occasions, TV has frequent issues, such as issues with stations and even outages, and bad phone call clarity and even dropped calls on VERY FREQUENT occasions. (Sadly, most of the dropped calls are conversations between me and my mother.) As for TV, once, I was trying to watch a Boston Bruins hockey telecast on NESN, when NESN went out widespread on Boston-region Comcast systems. I missed a portion of the 2nd period, maybe the late portion of the 1st period too. My 6th grade math teacher and I discussed Comcast's issues on several occasions during that school year, and he has it. Not surprisingly, he hates it too.

Comcast's prices are RIDICULOUSLY high. Many people's bills are now exceeding $250 dollars PER MONTH, ours included, even for just having HBO added on. We pay over $125 alone for phone and internet, and the same alone for TV.

Now, I've been wanting Verizon's FiOS for a while, but the monopoly keeps stopping us. Practically every surrounding town has both Comcast and FiOS, yet Dracut cheaped out and annoyed many town citizens, my family included. My cousin, who lives two towns over in Andover, has FiOS. It is a really good service; never have I had a call issue there; nor an internet or TV issue. (As a resident of a Comcast-monopolized town, I'm proud to say that my iPad has been connected to FiOS. lol.)

I hope to post more videos of TWC and Weatherscan in the future, and I hope to also have a good time at this forum! ;)

Welcome aboard to the forums, Nathan!  In regards to your Comcast rant, I don't know why things are so different in the Northeast compared to where I live.  Comcast may not be great, but it's not that bad here.  I go from bundle to bundle each year with just TV and internet to make my monthly rates much lower.  You may want to consider asking for special bundle rates in the future.

Oh wow..For some reason I'm obsessed with having an elevator in my own home. Since I live in a casino town, I've been fascinated with the different elevator types they use in the casinos and in the parking garages. Most of them are Otis's although i think the one at the Golden Nugget is a Thysenkrupp.

And now I've finally found my way back to this forum and my account, which amazingly is still here! Checking out a few videos on the site, and I guess I'll now see if I can somehow manage to catch up on the last half-decade's worth of forum posts. :P

Hey Travis, welcome

You might not know this, but this forum isn't technically the same TWC Classics forum. The memberbase was merged into the existing TWC Today forum in April 2010 and after the merge, Matt closed posting on the TWC Classics forum, to make it a read-only forum. However, months later, he removed the old TWC Classics forum and any ongoing classic discussion has just been moved here, making the TWC Today & TWC Classics Forum.

Anyways, hope you enjoy it!

Hey Travis!! Welcome back!! As Zach already explained, activity on my forum went way down a few years ago, so I decided to bring everyone that was left over here, where there was more discussion. I don't recall ever merging threads, though. I tried to bring back the old forum, so some could do research, but the backup I had was bad. Drop me a line sometime, I'd love to hear about what you've been up to! :D

Hello Everyone, my name is boyercam and I would like to introduce myself to these forums, now, there is one thing I must clear up from the start, I am english (you may have worked that out already) and I live in england. Now let me explain myself for invading your forums, there are two reasons why I am here:

1. I am interested about the weather and I have a professional weather station on the side of my house.
2. I am interested in WxStar emulations (not forgetting intellistar) and wonder why we don't have it in the UK (the main reason probably being that we don't have the weather channel on our little island)

So I will probably be making UK based emulations and I hope that no confusion occurs between the English (US) and the English (UK) language boundary.
P.S I'm having problems getting onto your forums as apparently I have been Spamming although I have never been to this site before. I'm having to post this through a proxy. Could a admin help me with this problem?

Welcome to the forums, boyercam!  If you could PM me the IP address you tried to use before making it here, I can take a look and remove the issue of the "Spamming" messages for you.  We have security measures with certain IP ranges blocked due to a lot of spam coming from those ranges in the past, so you might have hit one of those by chance.

A lot of you likely do not remember me, but TWC published my book and video "Storm Chaser" back in the mid-1990's.

I still chase, but my focus now days is storm safety, applying all the things I've learned (and still learning) to good use.

I look forward to joining the group.

I'm Jonathan from Canada.  Weather Now/Meteomedia started in my hometown in northern Ontario Sept of 1988 without a functioning weather STAR back then.  Throughout the years, I've grown interested in the station's music tracks, irritated by the voice-overs.  I love newscast and 24-hour information channel music tracks.  I have spent more time than I should in the past few years scowering Killertracks, Dewolfe, Sound-ideas and other network sound track websites and found 75% of the channel's used music tracks.  I posted one inquiry about The Weather Network's satellite forecast segment, which nobody can find the track title.  Thanks!

Hello friends! This is a reintroduction, of sorts. I was here a few years ago as "ilovemikebettes" and I have decided that, for purposes of time and to save the account [to keep it as this sort of timed frame], I decided to become "chamberlinaddiction". Chamberlin=Jimmy Chamberlin, ex Smashing Pumpkins drummer and the guy in my avatar. Yes, I still watch TWC from time to time, when they show the weather. I miss the smooth jazz music still.

For those of you that don't know me, hi! I'm Epiphany, I'm female, 16, I'm from Northwestern MA, and I enjoy music, writing, talking to people, and of course, watching the weather happen.

Have a wonderful day!

Hi everyone.  I creeped around TWC Classics years ago, but I never posted.  I've had a fascination with meteorology since I was about 8 years old.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IygQxE5aK4 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0IygQxE5aK4)  I had the opportunity to be on WJAC and give the forecast 8 years ago.  I've met a few members at WTAJ and I got a studio tour.  That was even longer ago.

Although I still like the news and weather, as a senior in high school, I want to go to college and get a degree in Music Education because I think it's important to have that still being taught today, and I want to be a roll model like my music directors have been to me.

I enjoy sonic branding.  I think it's fascinating.  I do some composing of my own and I love listening to the works of other composers, whether it be old-style TWC with jazz or classical, or even news music.  I'm a self-proclaimed music nerd... and I'm OK with that.

If you want someone to talk to, add me on Facebook, send me an email, follow me on twitter, watch my YouTube videos.  I'm very active online and I love to talk to people who are into the same things that I am.

Hi everyone. I am Nova.
It's great to find a forum centered around both The Weather Channel and Weather. I have been watching the channel  ever since I was little. Also, if you could tell by my custom title, I am also a fan of video games, which I have also been playing since I was a kid. I am hoping to have a great time here.

Hi, my name's Sean and I finally decided to register for this forum. :) I have been reading this forum for months now, and decided to join. I doubt I need to state my love for the weather channel, but I also care about how weather is displayed/brought to people. Another major reason for joining would be that I need help and insight on a project/idea I want to start. You can check it out here :

I'm back! I've been here for a long time, but I thought I introduce myself once again.

My name is Roland, but that display name will change soon to say "Roly." I was 12 years old when I was banned in 2008, I believe. 8 years later, I'm 20 years old, now more mature and have since done other things like, since 2014, "The Changing Newscasts Blog" and building it into an amazing site/empire that I love doing. But I still can't forget my first obsession, TWC and with nice friends, luck and support, I'm back on the site.

I'll post all my social channels and everything momentarily as I make my triumph return to the forums.

Plus, I am working with a friend of mines named Danny (boredcabblguy) to work on a project to hopefully (HOPEFULLY) bring another national weather network to American television and that will come in 2017.

Anyways, I'm glad to be back but I promise not to abuse the things I've once done, again. I promise that you'll see a more positive me, if anything.

And again, I'm back. :-)

Hello there. I’m known as ValhallanKnight on the Internet elsewhere. I have Verizon FiOS, which used to have the Weather Channel until March of 2015. I wasn’t too big on TWC before this year, where I’ve became fascinated with old Weather Channel graphics (specifically from the WeatherStar 4000 and XL). I hope I have a good time here on TWCToday Forums.

Heya Everyone,

My name is Ally or Allyson. Whichever is fine by me! So, I grew up with the WeatherStar 4000, then we got the WeatherStar XL in the Spring of 2001. I used to live near Binghamton NY and lived through the Tornado that hit around Binghamton NY in 1998 a day before my second birthday. However, I now call Oregon home and I absolutely love every minute of it. I also have my skywarn storm spotter ID and I couldn't be happier.

Hope everyone has an amazing holiday season!!!

Hey all! I'm getting more interested in meteorology and want to learn more about it. I may chime in on a topic from time to time here to gain a further understanding of the subject. I have much to learn so I may be chiming in a lot!
