Title: How old is your school?
Post by: Mike M on May 08, 2009, 02:24:07 PM
My high school was built in 1975. A second gymnasium and new hallway was added in 1991, and a major addition that made the school twice as big was built in 2001. My school, standing at least 400,000 square feet, currently serves about 2,600 students. The old 1975 portion was modernized significantly in 2006-2007.

I think the original part of the school was built around 1950 or so, but so much has been added on to it over the years, that the original part is a very small part of the whole school.

My school was bulit in 1924. It'a a historical site now so it can't have anything added or removed from it and if anything like or fire, tornado, etc damaged it, it has to be put together EXACTLY the way it was originally built.

Mines  "historic" but thats just B.S. It was built in 1911 and has had some minor fixes over the decades. Its horribly old and the city is simply pushing off completely renovating or rebuilding it.

The high school I graduated from is built in 1917 and used to be a junior college. In 1940 it converted to Brawley High School. Around 1940 Imperial Valley College is built. so it's around my grandma's age. :P

I believe my school was built in 1952... The Freshman wing was built in 1993 and the Senior wing was built in 2005? I'm not sure about that one, I couldn't find the year brick on the wall...

My old high school in New Orleans was very old, I know that much. My new school is fairly new, I'd say a couple of years old.

I think mine was built in 1953. A science wing was added in '96 and a FEMA tornado shelter/gym/cafeteria/multi-purpose building (which was in use yesterday for TornadoFest) was opened last year.

My school serves a little over 500 people. When tornadic weather arrives, the FEMA shelter can serve over 2,000 people. In one room.

The origional part of the building (Classrooms, Cafeteria) was built in 1957, the gym was finished (Pool and 2 gyms) in 1958, and then the Fine Arts wing was completed in 1963, same year as my house. My god, my school is a old piece of retro junk. Over the summer they renovated parts of it... but I don't think that they can afford doing it again this summer. To much money.

My school has several parts to it, all built at different times. The old part, the Mansion(it used to actually be a mansion along Delaware Ave.) was built in the mid to late 1800's.  In the 1920's a large Auditorium was built behind the mansion for plays and other performances many of the citizens of the city would attend. The school was founded in 1872, but did not move to the site on Delaware Ave. until the 1940's. When they moved to Delaware Ave. they built a new classroom wing off of the old Mansion. It was finished in 1948. In the 50's off of the Mansion and Aud they built "Fraunhiem Hall", what was then a residence for the Jesuit teachers. As time progressed it became a classroom wing/school offices building. Then, last year, they demolished Fraunhiem to begin construction of a new Field House, in order to remove sports from the Auditorium so it could be restored to its original purpose:theater. We are also building a new classroom wing extending off the older one. So yea you could say my school has a colorful and varied past.  :bleh:
