Title: HELP ON XP MEDIA CENTER COMPUTER!!!! I'm using Vista on the other cpu
Post by: LFMusicRocks on May 11, 2009, 08:27:09 PM
Here's the story:

I installed Windows 7 last Tuesday, and found out there was no Wireless Internet connection at all, neither I could use one of those. Then I actually put in my Dell Windows XP Media Center CD to reintall and revert back to XP. Then I install the components, and some can't install. After that a setup flashes at me, and says the following w/ the fatal error:

Every time I boot up my computer, a Fatal error comes, which says

Fatal Error
One of the components that windows needs to continue setup could not be installed.

This happens everytime I start my computer and setup comes. Have any of you gone through this? Is there a way I can fix it?

Assuming your data is backed up, format the drive, then use the recovery disc.

Seriously, stay with Windows 7. To fix the internet, get on another computer with internet, find the driver on Dells website, put the setup file on a USB Flash drive, then plug the flash drive into the 7 computer, then launch install.

Doesn't the driver need to be designed for Windows 7?

I have a feeling most Vista drivers will work on Windows 7... Microsoft wouldn't be THAT stupid.

They do, When I put Windows 7 on my Dell Latitude I used all Vista drivers.

Ok, but in my dell XPS M140 (with XP), I'm STUCK!!!!!! It keeps doing setup everytime I boot up my computer and setup gives me a fatal error. How can I stop this from happening?

If you bothered to read my post, I said you should format the drive and start fresh.

I agree with Gil! If you can its best to wipe the drive and start over

I might happen to have a recovery disk somewhere, but how do I format the drive? My drive is Drive D

Well, I don't need to worry about much, I got my operating system back. Here are a few problems that I was facing here:

1) The screen resolution size was abnormally large for me
2) I'm unable to connect to the internet either with a router or wirelessly

Plus, I've tried to restore my computer to factory settings and didn't work :(

Probably the video and network drivers are missing. When I reload my Latitude the screen res is 800x600 because the drivers are not installed. Just go over to Dell's website on another computer, download the drivers, put them on a flash drive, and load them on the computer that needs them.

Ah!! I'm back at my normal computer with internet. And I noticed that when I installed the drivers, my system got back to normal. And I changed the screen resolution, what a dramatic difference. :).
