Title: Comcast EAS gone?
Post by: G2003 on August 19, 2007, 07:55:03 PM
I just realized that i have no seen the Comcast EAS in several years! I probably last saw it in mid 2005. Does anyone know if they
took it out or what?

Someone over in TWCC complained that the EAS system blocked covered up weather warninggs on every channel including local channels and TWC. I guess other people complained about not veiwing their weather warnings on the local news and they waqnted the EAS system to be out.

Here's a cable industry secret for you guys. The EAS screen should never have been seen during waking hours to start with! That is something that should be done (and usually is done) during the wee hours.

i dunno. all i noticed was that there is no longer an all-channel EAS for severe weather warnings.

I have Comcast and I have just saw a test broadcasted by the EAS, so it's not gone.

They may Test it, but they never use it for warnings. i'm talking about them using it for warnings, not testing it.

They don't do that here, so I'm lost about that.

Well you guys don't get hardly any Severe Thunderstorm Warnings or Tornado Warnings, so i'm not surprised. They stopped doing it alltogether about 2 years ago.

We get more than you know.

I'm going to look and see if I have a video of the EAS in action

I haven't seen the EAS activated around here for Severe T'storm warnings or Tornado Warnings in years, but we have those annoying weekly tests all the time, it seems.

Yeah we get the annoying tests all the time too, though technically its only supposed to be done during the wee hours. That is, if your talking about the ones that take up the entire screen, and not just the scrolling ones.

I havent seen an EAS test in years. My headends must have it disabled or something, or on a stupid local channel that no one watches.

LOL, why do people have such a hard time making logical connections? Maybe its because your headend does it in the wee hours, like they're supposed to.

or on a stupid local channel that no one watches.
Sure, I'll take that! :D

EAS could be on a public access channel. You might not know how much stupid info they put on those channels.

Usually EAS tests are done system wide, not just on a particular channel or two.

We get them here for Tornado Warnings and Flash Flood Warnings, as well as Civil Emergencies and Child Abduction Emergencies. For a while, we got them for Severe Thunderstorm Warnings as well... but almost every single Comcast customer complained, and Comcast finally took them off. It got so bad, people were blaming the NWS, which prompted the NWS to issue a public statement:

I seen the EAS about 2-3 weeks ago with my Comcast. It is not gone, and it was on EVERY channel.
