How many people on the site have had them. I have to get braces. I hear that when they make the molds / models of your teeth, that the molds can make you choke.

getting molds isn't difficult... they use a special like rubbery thing, and they place it into a metal plate and stick your teeth into it... first the upper level, then the lower level... then they grab a piece of wax so they can get the tooth spacing properly. I've had braces, had them removed in 10th grade, and they haven't worked for me... My teeth started to space back out, so maybe I'll get something in the future... dunno though.

I had them several years ago. As for the impressions, if you have a good orthodontist that keeps up with technology, there is an anesthetic spray called "HurriCane" (a play on Novacane, i guess) that they spray down your throat (tastes like cherry) that numbs the throat, so you won't gag.

In my recent visit to the dentist, she told me that my teeth are not separate or in needs of special care. So, I won't be needing braces. My little sister, however, she is a candy addict and her back teeth really needs some care...the dentist said she is in need of braces urgently. :noexpression:

Cool. I hope that the orthodontist I'm seeing has that spray.

I've had litterally everything done to my mouth possible by the orthodontists/dentists :P Including braces, twice. I've been in orthodontics for 10 years, and still have to visit every 6 months.
The molding/impressions aren't really that bad. Just breathe through your nose, that's what I did. The only time braces hurt, is when you get them tightened, and that's about it (other than having to have your mouth open wide while they put braces on)

I've had braces twice. The mold that they do may be a bit strange at first, but I've also asked for the spray. It helps a lot. So if I were you I would ask to see if they have it. I think the worst part is getting them on because of the amount of time your mouth has to be open and not to mention the bad-tasting cement that holds the braces. Once you get them on, your teeth are also a bit tender and sensitive, but that doesn't last forever. Good luck! I hope the whole experience isn't too bad. The end result is amazing.

Thanks. But there is another problem. My last remaining baby tooth (Had a second set of em on some teeth) came in crooked. So they're going to pull it and I think they said that they have to do some gum surgery to pull the adult tooth down and into place.

Ive had braces. It was an annoying experience but im glad to have them off. Its not that bad getting them on just gets old wearing them after a while.
-
I've been due for them for over five years, but never had the money or patience for them. :hmm:
-
My mouth suddenly hurts...
I've been really lucky, I've never had to have anything done to my teeth. No cavities either.
-
Well I had the molds done today. No throat number. I didn't gag either. But the thing I'm scared about is having to go see a periodonist because I have to get a crroked baby tooth pulled and then they're going to drill up to the big tooth and pull the big tooth down into place.

Never had braces, although I'm sure I need them. But I don't have the money. If I ever get the money I'd like to try Invisalign, instead of going with the traditional metal braces. Invisalign costs more, I know, but its probably well worth it. The thought of wearing regular metal braces just doesn't appeal to me. :D

That's what I plan to do too, if I ever get around to it.

Some problems, however, cannot be fixed with Invisalign, or even braces for that matter. I had to get a thing that corrected an overbite that I had. It was hell. :censored:

I don't have any major problems, at least that my dentist has ever told me about, so I don't see why Invisalign wouldn't be an option for me. And frankly, I'm not looking to correct anything other than the position of my teeth. I just want 'em straightened, and I know Invisalign can do THAT. :P

I currently have braces until January 2009. They hurt for one week after any type of adjustment (wires, rubber bands, etc.). :noexpression:
-
Don't you mean January 2010? That's still not that much longer from now.

About a month ago, I went to my first orthodontist appointment. I do need braces. However, he postponed the installation (or whatever you would call it) until another appointment because I have one more tooth that I have lost, but it hasn't grown in yet. I have friends with them and I hear they suck. =(

I've never had braces, and I don't think I need them.I'm VERY happy about that.Pretty much all my friends have either had them or have them, and some say they really hurt and suck badly, and others say they hurt but they're not that bad..I thought a few years ago I was going to need them, because my teeth were very crooked and I had a lot of gaps on my top row.Throughout the last two years or so,they've really pushed together.I've had some dental work done though, including 2 pulled baby teeth, and I had a veneer put over one of my top teeth last summer because It was a "Peg Tooth",meaning it was really small and was basically a stick tooth.I was really self-consious about it,and my dentist originally wanted me to wait until my senior year of high school to get it fixed.I explained to her I didn't like it,and she let me get it done at only 13 years old.I had to have to clay molds done that you have to get done for retainers though.Gross!I hated that part.Plus when she put the tooth in for the first time,I had a hard time eating and it really hurt for a few days because it pushed my teeth around. But in the end, totally worth it.
Good luck to anyone who has to get braces though! I feel for you.

I had to use an expander (to widen the top part of my mouth, since my mouth was awkwardly shaped) back in the beginning of '07. It was not that big of a deal, but it was annoying. I had to have my parents turn a key that would force it out further and thus force my top teeth out a litte bit. I got my braces on 6/29/07. It was a bit long, and I was worried they would do something. I obviously came out okay, so don't worry
I had my braces all throughout the rest of 2007 and 2008. I finally got them off in February this year. Relaxing feeling!
