With the way things are currently going on The Weather Channel, has anyone here found alternatives for 24/7 weather coverage?
As for me I got the following:
- NOAA Weather/All Hazards Weather Radio - I'm covered with 2 stations in Dallas and Fort Worth, and I got it set to where it can alert me of any severe weather in Dallas, Denton, and Tarrant Counties.
- The Local AccuWeather Channel on WFAA-TV - For regular TV viewers it's on channel 8.2. For Time Warner Cable customers: channel 371 (and also channel 8.2 for HDTVs directly connected to cable). For Charter customers: channel 101. And there's even live streaming online here (http://www.wfaa.com/video/featured-videos/Live-Streaming-Video-70231852.html). While this station may not have any smooth jazz music playing during local inserts (a rebroadcast of NOAA Weather Radio airs while they run live radar, plus local video forecasts), it's reliable enough.

None here besides Weatherscan on the high-end digital tiers. The two weather subchannels we had (NBC Plus and 6abc news now) were both shut down and replaced with lifestyle programming a few years back.

No Weatherscan or AccuWeather on my TV :( but I do have a AM/FM/Weather radio that gets two NOAA weather stations via antenna. The reception quality is fair on both stations, but not too terrible.

Noaa Weather Radio (Though we need a new one) and the ABC 33/40 Weather Now digital channel on channel 137 for Charter customers and channel 330 for Bright House customers.

The Orlando/Daytona Beach market used to have weather on digital substations of two local channels (one used to be NBC's Weather Plus), but these have since both closed down (one is now MeTV and the other is something in Spanish). There is no AccuWeather Channel or Weather Nation here. No WeatherScan, either.
All that we do have as an alternative to The Weather Channel is "Travel Weather Now" operated by the cable company, and the presence of this station adds a lot of pressure towards not adopting a 24-hour weather network in the area. It was recently revamped to actually cover local weather throughout Florida (mostly forecasts, satellite, and radar - no current conditions or, bizarrely, no active weather advisories) with some additional information for travelers. Previously, it was only for travel weather throughout the U.S. and the world with virtually no local weather information.
I think this is very foolhardy, since central Florida has some very active weather, especially during the spring and summer. This isn't Tornado Alley, but it comes in a close second during certain times of the year. At least all of the local broadcast stations will break into regular programming (whenever possible) with meteorologists in front of maps whenever there's a tornado warning in the area.
Otherwise, though, the only realistic ways to get weather on demand are to go online or to listen to the NOAA Weather Radio, which, surprisingly, virtually no one I know down here has. I have one in every room.

WeatherNation is quickly gaining a healthy reputation for 24/7 weather coverage, although their live stream is repeating pre-recorded clips, which they do twice a day.

WeatherNation, basically. They're pretty reliable.
That, and I just check NWS for weather updates.

Nothing here, but Weatherscan which I don't get anymore because it's higher up on the digital cable tier. There's also a "so called" Accuweather channel, but technically it's just a radar loop from our local NBC affiliate with local weather updates and occasional Accuweather segments/forecasts.
EDIT: Like Ana said, NWS is a great alternative.

I've got the weird answer for this question: I'm the alternative as I actually can make official forecasts! :P In all seriousness, I use the internet, the NWS website, and the other forecasters at work to gain their insight and help satisfy my need for weather information.

LOL!! That's one way of doing it: yourself. :lol: I had my own weather website via Yahoo!'s Geocities that utilizes TWC's weather magnet and NWS maps & radars (in other words, my own version of Weatherscan). It's too bad mine was closed down in late 2009 when Geocities was merged with Yahoo! Profiles which I can really do nothing much with.
