TWC website criticism
« on: October 21, 2014, 08:45:40 PM »
Interesting article about the TWC website. I also noticed the same thing on air today with TWC hyping a nor easter that is not a nor easter per say. TWC actually did a little segment on this how TWC is calling a nor'easter but other meteorologists, stations and noaa are not calling it one.  It seems to me Twc is really starting to lose credibility and friends in the weather profession circles.  Seem to be on their own. Started w th naming winter storms.  False headlines.  TWC seems to think they know it all and and are rewriting weather.  It's a shame.  A great product ruined.
Here is the article http://m.washingtonpost.com/blogs/capital-weather-gang/wp/2014/10/21/now-more-than-ever-weather-com-is-out-of-control/

On a side note is the studio new for weather center live? Not bad, now get new OCM and format.

False headlines? That's a new one. According to another article on the site, they also did this in May about the forecast for the upcoming hurricane season. It was forecast to be at or slightly below normal, but TWC titled the article "NOAA Hurricane Forecast May Shock You." Seriously!? They later changed it when some people complained, but still...wow.

Are you saying I'm wrong for saying false headlines?  Maybe I should have said misleading. Because they are. I agree with that article.

I think what's going on is that some people don't like the headlines that try to capture the viewers attention, they have a problem with it? So what. Everybody has an opinion, not worth fighting about.

Haven't checked weather.com in months and don't plan to in the near future.  Their new layout is atrocious, and I was tired of articles about a "Major Northeast Snowstorm in Two Weeks" taking precedence over something major happening elsewhere in the nation in the short-term.  That, and the stupid articles such as, "THIS May Surprise You," or "You Won't Believe They Did THAT."

Actually it turned out to be a significant noreaster with widespread impacts across coastal areas of the Mid Atlantic and NE. Whether they knew that at the time or not is a different question.

I think this is a lesson to wait and see how a storm turns out before bashing a weather headline. I certainly understand where the criticism was coming from but this wasn't the best example to make their point.

The website relaunch has removed some features (monthly and historical weather data), but it's left all of the non-weather-related stuff on the front page.
