TWC Being Bought By Comedian and Mogul Byron Allen

(1/4) > >>

texasstooge:
Some of you may have heard of comedian and mogul Byron Allen and his Entertainment Studios company, some of you haven't. Today, Allen has announced his intent to purchase The Weather Channel.

At least the channel itself will soon be off the hands of the NBCUniversal/Blackstone/Bain consortium. Will we see some improvements like the return of live 24/7 weather?

Do not be surprised if this leads TWC to go from a cable distribution to a digital subchannel.

Highly doubtful. Also the sale has already been finalized; it's no longer NBC's. I can't see there being a whole lot of changes in the interim, although it's interesting they note they want to incorporate more live programming. We'll have to see.

I wonder how this will affect the coverage of global warming?  When it was NBC alone, they were really in-your-face about it.  After all, General Electric (parent company of NBC) is HEAVILY invested in so-called "green" energy, so it only makes sense that they'd use the outlet to indirectly promote their products.  The news division of NBC was always more than happy to comply for political reasons.

God, how many times has someone wanted to buy TWC in the last two years? This seems to be getting repetitive. I wonder if this one will actually go through unlike the ones in the past.
