I have to say I'm incredibly impressed with the new TWC HD themes and setups. In my opinion, the new graphics and sets really makes you see how god awful the old graphics were (which I always hated to begin with).

I love you TWC HD. :)

2) Is it me, or is the text on the maps hard to read for you SDers? I just switched over to the SD feed, and especially on the projector maps, the text was really blurry.
Yeah, I noticed that. I had to strain my eyes to read the city names.

I've noticed that the letter boxing only appears when they show footage from outside the studio (see above images), and it disappears when the OCMs in the studio are shown. However the black on the top and bottom of the screen remains in both situations.

You're referring to pillar boxing (i.e., the bars on the left and right). The black bars on the top and bottom are letterboxes.
Whoops. Yeah, that'a what I meant. :wall:

At 11:14 PM ET, they showed a Road Crew segment that what was filmed in HD, and shown in HD, too. The sticking point was that all the graphics were cutoff the screen. These segments were designed to be shown letterboxed on the SD channel, methinks.

They showed that one during regular EE, as well. Even for the HD feed, they used pillar boxes and completely cut off the graphics. Apparently the right hand isn't talking to the left in terms of these Road Crew segments.

When they're using the video wall, they really need to make sure the map titlebars fit on the screen for SD viewers. I can't count how many times this week I've seen things like "IDAY'S FORECAST" or "UNDERSTORM FORECAST."

Either (a) they need to set up a preset range that the camera can safely operate inside, or (b) they need to move the map titlebars closer to the center of the graphic.

They did that on the projector, too?

I've only known of them doing that on the key wall until now.

Re: The cut off sides on the 4:3 telecast. I compared the view of the SD channel on LCD TV and my old-fashioned CRT; and it looked fine on the LCD but cut off on the CRT. It looks like they're positioning the cameras without regard to the safe zone. You could only properly view that broadcast of EEWC if you could see the full overscan area.

Oh, I also meant to add that the precip forecast maps shown at the top of the hour were completely out of whack. They didn't match up with any of the weather patterns in the coming days. The actual forecast icons were correct, though.

Oh, and the city indicators are still gone from the Weekly Planner maps. I guess they realized how annoying they were.

The recorded portions of EEWC last night were once again shown in letterboxed HD for the SD channel. The lone exception was any live weather updates they did, like at 1:10 AM ET, which were not letterboxed.

That also makes me wonder... if my STAR would've failed last night, which satellite LF would I have seen? SD or HD?

Now they decided to use a pre-recorded teaser on PM Edition tonight. I wonder why it took them 4 days to make a teaser for PME when they were able to have one ready for A&B and EE the first night.

You probably would've seen the SD satellite LF since that's still running live. A number of things would have to fail in order to see the HD LF; most notably, they'd have to actually be playing that back from the recording, and I'm not quite sure if that's normally done at all.

As for the PME teaser, I'm a bit disappointed that we'll never see the regular PME opener except on weekends and whenever they choose not to use the recorded teaser on weekdays. The new recorded teaser uses a watered-down version of the opener.

I wonder if EEWC will go fully live for the first time in HD tonight; there's a lot of severe weather going on tonight.

Nope, but Sharon's using the projector wall, and Rich is using the key wall. Looks like Master can only use the projector wall for one OCM per broadcast.
Just a quick note, Master Control, and full control (X3) have the same abilities now.

If that's the case, why are Master-produced shows behaving the way they always have since June 2007? You can still pick out a Master-produced show like you could pick out a black sheep in a herd of 100 white sheep.

So how come on EEWC, only one OCM can use the video wall and the other has to use the key wall?  Because on EE or YWT, both OCMs can use the video wall.

I couldn't find the answer in this topic. If it's here, I'm obviously half asleep.  :P

yeah thats been brought up since day one, its because EEWC is master controlled, and apparently can only have one OCM use the video wall.
