Sinclair Broadcast Group (which owns numerous television broadcasting stations throughout the country) could be acquiring The Weather Channel soon. There have been discussions between Sinclair and TWC over the past year and an announcement could be made soon.

This could be interesting... Apparently Sinclair is interested in having TWC handle weather forecasts for local stations it owns in small markets. So, if this goes through, it's not TWC people who need to be worried about their jobs, it's the local meteorologists.

$100 million? That's pretty depressing (this + digital assets bought last year totals over a billion less than in 2008). :hmm:
I think Sinclair would be a decent buyer to be honest. I like how their affiliates operate, anyway.

SBG bought my local station WBMA ABC 33/40 about 2 and 1/2 years ago. The one James Spann is on.

This could maybe help put the channel back together!

If Sinclair buys TWC, I would expect a faster downward spiral. Sinclair never does anything good when they purchase properties. Most Sinclair news stations are last in their perspective markets.

That is what I have heard about SBG. They don't care about the viewers, they care about the money. More layoffs of employees would occur. I'm going by what they've done to the local station in my area. I saw the receptionist (an ultra-nice lady) let go, no good reason. They want to control the stations and networks that they own. It's definitely a cause for concern.
