It's so great to have the normal LF openers back again, especially the nighttime beach one, which I think is actually pretty funny considering that it's a parody of the original beach opener.

They've also brought back the "Bringing Weather to Life" cloud bumper at the top of the hour and replaced all of the WWCH openers with drought tips and Forecast Earth contest promos. There hasn't been a mention of WWCH all day!

That probably won't last long, though. They brought the regular openers back in July 2007, but within a month they were gone.

Now all we need back is the Storm Watch openers (at :50 past they've been showing the water worries opener).

Stephanie mentioned that Mike will be off and Jim Cantore and Dr. Greg Forbes will be on Abrams & Bettes with her. I don't recall Jim being in any show other than Evening Edition in years.

In the end, he only wound up doing one segment at :30 past; it was still an interesting move to have him on A&B. I'm guessing they did that to bring variety to the show rather than having Steph do the entire show alone.

It was also odd that Jim Cantore was wearing a full suit tonight, yet he strangely didn't even wear a tie for the entire rest of the week. It should be the other way around...

Tonight during EE, Jim was showing the VIL products on SkyTracker to show hail cores. This is the first I've seen the VIL products on air in quite a while.

So true, they haven't used those in ages. Does TWC feel that they're too "complicated" for their viewers?

Well, they still exist on the "Current Weather" map, but that map isn't used very often.

Yeah, I hardly ever see the current weather map anymore. All they show now when they talk about current weather conditions is the SkyTracker radar, which I don't like. I remember back before around 2004, the current weather map used to almost always be the first thing they'd show in a segment.
