Just checked the SD Channel and you're right but the LDL blocks the bottom allowing the HD "TWC, TWC Mobile logos that appears behind the HD LDL" to show on the top making it squished. It's problay only for 1AM ET since it is a replay.

I was thinking that too, because the Weather Updates were filmed 16:9 as well, but I guess we'll find out at 4am. Haha

It's possible they may be doing what they accidentally did for Evening Edition West Coast back in 2008, and letterboxing the recorded video by accident. We'll have to wait until 4am to find out

The national HD LDL is back into storm mode today and they added airport travel delays on the left where the show name usually is.

The taped segments on the 1am WCL are still letterboxing on the SD channel.

They need to consider a name change for the 1am show since 75% of it is not live.

Actually, they probably are.  Way back in the day the overnight broadcasts were pre-taped.  A casual viewer who just tuned into the channel for a few minutes to get the latest weather report probably wouldn't care or even notice.  It's only dedicated viewers who pay attention to things like that and notice... and complain.

So, that's probably what they're trying to do, too.

However, while most of the east coast will be sleeping at 1:00 in the morning, the west coast is still in prime time, so I really can't understand why The Weather Channel, which is trying to reposition itself in the market, is showing the west coast pre-taped and out-of-date weather reports during prime time.

The 1am WCL weekends is following the same format as weekdays.
1am and 1:30am blocks live. 1:10am, 1:20am. 1:40am and 1:50am blocks from the 10pm show. :no:
The taped blocks are being shown letterboxed again.  :thrilled:

I know most people don't even notice most of show is not live still this is beyond stupid to have an OCM come in to do one show and only 2 of the 6 blocks are live.
Even more embarrassing are 3 hour outdated maps from the 10pm forecast segments.

I have no problem with the show blocks having tape segments in them, however either do the show with live forecast segments or go to taped programming at 1am.

If someone wants to make the arguement it's a costs savings to replay most of the 10pm show at 1am,
they still have the al crew there as parts of the 1am show are live right? What happens if they have a problem with playback of the recorded segments?
