I know. But those are really minor things compared to what she left.

Jennifer Delgado got herself into some pretty big controversy with comments she made about Haiti:

Quote
The Weather Channel is apologizing after being bombarded with waves of criticism. The source of the understandable ire happens to be a meteorologist who was covering Hurricane Matthew’s then-pending destruction in the Caribbean. She somehow attributed Haiti’s deforestation to the island nation’s “hungry” children.

On Monday, TWC’s Jennifer Delgado said Hurricane Matthew’s impact on Haiti could potentially be more severe than neighbor Dominican Republic because of Haiti’s big deforestation issue. “They take all the trees down, then burn the trees. Even the kids there, they’re so hungry, they actually eat the trees,” Delgado erroneously claimed.

Delgado’s uneducated comment received tons backlash on social media, with one viewer asking Delgado when she has ever seen children in Haiti eating trees. Former Haitian Prime Minister Lamothe Laurent took to Facebook to slam the meteorologist, writing, “SHAME ON YOU!! Deeply disturbed by your reporting that Haitian children are eating trees! Where did you get that info?”

Phedra Remarais also went on Facebook and slammed Delgado, but not without giving her a quick lesson on the real reason Haiti’s trees are being chopped down. “The trees are used as a source of energy in Haiti,” Remarisis wrote on the social networking site. “They are cut and turned into charcoal for cooking and heat.” Additionally, Remarais urged The Weather Channel to find “educated and knowledgeable” employees rather than “the very ignorant” Delgado. The scathing message made its way to TWC President David Clark who offered up an apology.

“We are terribly sorry for the on air error and are taking measures to correct it, it should not have happened. The team is very concerned about people of Haiti and we will do our utmost to serve the public there in our coverage.”

Delgado, however, has yet to issue an apology.

She has apologized, per Facebook:

Quote
I want to apologize for a statement that I made yesterday that was inappropriate. My intention is always to provide relevant information to areas impacted by severe weather and I wanted to spotlight the incredibly difficult conditions that the people in Haiti continue to face, particularly in light of Hurricane Matthew. I deeply regret and apologize for any statement that I used on-air that was offensive.

So if she were to apologize on TV - everything would fine? Hardly.  I read the comments on her apology post and while what she said was idiotic and offensive - people are still bashing her. They're calling her apology pathetic. Fact is, as people we demand apologies from those who mess up...but we don't accept them. We just keep bashing them regardless.

Speaking of Matthew, do we know if there is going to be extended coverage yet?

she did apologized on the air, it aired at the start of the 2 PM CDT hour of Weather Center Live.

plus i'm sure TWC will go to Red mode today as Hurricane Matthew gets closer to Florida.

TWC is using a new storm alert cut (or at least I haven't heard it before) for Hurricane Matthew. Anyone else hear it?

They're using the good 'ole hurricane sandy music bumps from killertracks and videohelper during live coverage. Sounds a lot better than the watt severe theme which is was too repetitive over the last 3 years.  Although the storm alert music being used on the 8s is new which is fine by me. So far sounds the same as what was used during Hermine.

Alex mentioned that they have THIRTEEN people out in the field reporting on this.

Is this why Alexandra Steele has been the ONLY OCM in the studio that isn't a storm specialist?

THey had this mess happen with Hermine too.

Is it that hard to have an OCM or two in the studio covering this? It's Friday. Chris and Jennifer Delgado should be able to cover this right? It's after twelve, so it's generally their time in the studio. Did they just tell all the OCM's to not come today and have this coverage rely solely on field reporting and storm experts?

Severe weather this weekend means more live coverage!

Rich and Mark are on with Forbes right now, and Mike and Liana were on yesterday.

A few updates on personnel changes:

Dr. Rick Knabb returns to TWC as Hurricane Expert after 5 years as Director of the Hurricane Center. He was with TWC from 2010-2012:

Anaridis Rodriguez left TWC for WBZ-TV.:

Good riddance on Anaridis. They literally gave a non-meteorologist a full time position while letting go of the actual meteorologists during her time on the Network. That never set well with me.

Nothing they haven't done before.

My interest in TWC after the buyout dwindled rather quickly after one of the anchors spent 5 minutes of airtime reading Twitter comments about how hot she was.
