It would look more like the real intros if you got rid of it.

Like I mentioned before it was a random thing when I made it, that apostrophe being there was a mistake on my part.

Indeed. They comment Paul's, but not mine. It sometimes takes me more than an hour to complete each report, depending on how many screens I have to edit. Therefore, they could use some comments.

Here's a WS400 emulator featuring Struttin by Bobby Lyle.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mXEHxEZ5XWY

I have been messing around with the ticker for the TCF and I think this is as close to perfect as I can get it with Camstudio. I also noticed that if you set your hardware accelerator from "Full" to "None" and set your color setting from high to low not only will the video record in better quality, but YT will give you the option to play the video in high quality (at least with the last videos I've done this way.)
Title: Re: Weatherlover's Emulations
Post by: Zach on August 05, 2008, 07:37:44 PM
It probably was a Movie Maker issue.

I did something in my Movie Maker settings, the timing improved (like I was watching the emulator live without recording it).

This video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_kyGQJSl1I&fmt=18) can prove the issue (although I will confess to pushing the scroll speed back to 11 ms), also pay attention to the smooth scroll on the LDL.

There's really nice squall line that's intensified slightly, another 2 inches of rain is possible and the local update is 4 pages long! Sorry to not comment, but I love them all.

How did you make the gradient background?

If you mean the gradient bg for the 4000, I placed a rectangle shape over the slide, right clicked and went to format shape, went to gradient fill, and picked "late sunset" located under the
preset colors tab, from there I just tweaked some of the colors around.  ;)

Since there isn't a shape available for this one, I had to do some cropping, I used the parallelogram shape and added the orange gradients, then I saved it as picture, inserted it back in and cropped the left side off.

These are some LF Openers I made that I'm thinking about using with my XL emulations. (I wish I had the actual audio used during that time, but I don't.) The Animated pictures came from Google Image. Another downside to this is I had to record them with Camstudio which made the video kinda milky like, Hypercam speeds the animation on the pictures twice as fast then freezes.

I wouldn't be able to post it on Youtube because that song would be blocked or removed, but I may be able to post it here if the file size is small enough.

WeatherStar4000 Emulator - Winter Weather Advisory pt. 2

The NWS in Peachtree City has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for all of North and Central Georgia as far south as Columbus,Ga! it expires at Midnight Sunday Night. 1-2 inches are possible, but depending on track and how fast that upper low shoots the cold to the surface we can definitely see more than that! Thundersnow is also possible with this system.

Before I log off, I wanted to post these two 4000 emulators from today during our snowstorm, I can't give you an overall snowfall total as many areas in the city saw more or less (2-6 inches, unofficial report of 10 inches.)

WeatherStar4000 Emulator - Heavy Snow Falling at the Airport
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l--Dl61f5xo#hq (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l--Dl61f5xo#hq)

College Park, which is near the airport has been reporting heavy snow and fog for two hours, Hartsfield-Jackson Int'l Airport is having 5 hour delays.

WeatherStar4000 Emulator - Thundersnow!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPkZH9eSwMQ#hq (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPkZH9eSwMQ#hq)

Today was my first time EVER hearing and seeing thundersnow, the last time we had that was during the Superstorm of 93' which also happened to occur in March, I also altered the config code to show the airport weather conditions on the current conditions screen, that's why there's a different ob on the regional conditions page. NOTE: The yellow, oranges, and reds on the radar is NOT just sleet, it was where thundersnow was also being detected.

Next Saturday will officially be the 1 year anniversary of the March 14th EF2 Tornado that wrecked havoc through Downtown Atlanta at 9:38pm that night. I will never ever forget this night because of the powerful strengths and sounds of the twister and it's historic nature as being the first tornado to go through the downtown area in weather history.

WeatherStar4000 & XL Icons Tribute
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mTjP9kxDZk# (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mTjP9kxDZk#)
This was originally going to be only an XL icon tribute, but given the video effects I used, I knew I wasn't going to have enough icons for the song I used so I got the idea to make a tribute for both the 4000 and XL icons. The 4000 icons tribute I had up before has been removed permantly.

I'm also under a Flood Watch & Warning, I believe with the rain moving out by noontime and some daytime heating it won't be long before I'm under a Tornado Watch. WeatherStar XL Emulation - Music Error

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6a4TrWPhEw# (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6a4TrWPhEw#)

The video starts off with a station ID, then the LF intro which goes into the LF, the song that starts off is "November" by Mark Krurnowski when it fails halfwaythrough to "Evening"/"Pier 32" by Trammell Starks. The original song recorded to this emulation was "Mexicoco" by Wayman Tisdale, but I had a copyright issue with that song before I closed my old account, if you like to hear and watch the original, it's attached below.

Here's a Spring Montage I made, this is my 3rd attempt since Spring started, the first two frustrated me because of copyright issues and I wasn't able to dub in a different song due to the kind of effects I used for that particular song so this video lacks the video effects I would have liked to use.

NOTE - THE NARRATION AND TEXT IS IN SPANISH EXPECT FOR THE RADAR. I got this idea to do something like this and since I'm not going to have a lot of time to work on it tomorrow, I'm doing it a few hours ahead of time, The only major typo is that I put tomorrow's date instead of tonight's date. I used a Spanish translator so I hope most of the words I didn't know are accurate.

We ended the last day of August on a cool note, now were beginning the first day of September on a COLD one. We barely made to 70 today, which is over 15 degrees below average! This unusually cold weather was due to a strong cold wedge that developed over the Southern Appalachian Mtns. and slid a cold dome of air through the North Georgia Mtns. into the lower valley areas of North Georgia.  :brr: :brr: :brr:

This is a test run of the Travel Cities Forecast with animated wx icons, finally I got it to work, it's just a little slow and laggy from the recording though. :hmm:

Features "Just Let It Go" by Melvin Miller

WeatherStar4000 HD Satellite Local Forecast Test Run

Since I made my own version of the Weathertar4000 in HD, I thought I would do the same for if it was a Satellite Local Forecast.

Also, does anyone know of any good screen recorders that don't lag so much?

WeatherStar4000 HD Satellite Local Forecast Test Run #2

Song ~ Airbourne - Smooth Sailing (played on the March 2008 Daytime playlist on TWC)
(If this song sounds a little different, it's because it's been edited for audio noise & distortion)

Changes: Redid titlebars.
Sped up some of the animation and removed animation from some of the titlebars. Debut of the Selected Cities Forecast.
Minor change on the regional forecast maps.
TWC HD logo moved to the right side.
Precipitation & Thunderstorm Forecast maps redone.

Courtesy of TWCi & NBCU, no copyright infrigment intended. This is my October 2009 update, my update was in April this year, in this update I added shadow and fixed the font size. The song and Local Forecast opener featured in this video actually played on TWC at the time of this recording. All weather data is accurate except for the LDL.

12 Days of Christmas Emulation Special - Albany, NY

12 Days of Christmas Emulation Special - Albany, NY (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9s0SHWZgUI#ws)

Our first trip take us to a wintry and icy Albany in Upstate New York. I also want to add that I know the humidty/dewpoint is missing on the LDL, It was one of those errors where I was too far into making this that I couldn't correct it without it taking another hour so to fix.

Song ~ Evergreen - O Little Town of Bethelem

Our thrid stop takes us up in the Ohio Valley in the COLD city of Cleveland.

The configuration of the regional map is not the best, It would have helped if I had of had a video of a Cleveland XL from years ago to go off of.

I was having some problems with the titlebar on the Current Conditions screen so I had to overlap another titlebar on top of it which is why the coloring is off and you see part of some text behind it.

Thanks for the positive feedback Aaron and Molly, but I actually didn't do anything out of the ordinary. Since it is a powerpoint file all I had to do was change them from XL icons to the 4000 icons and tweak the sizes because they did come up more larger than the XL ones. I always wondered what that version of the XL would be like if it had the 4000 icons to start off so it was another one of my random ideas.  :P

Test #2 - I'm not sure why it took so long for the text to appear like it did, it was set to appear at the same time of the warning tone. I also changed the font for the title bar to the right font from the first test last night.

NOTE - ALL WEATHER DATA IS FAKE, ONLY THE TORNADO WARNING CRAWL WAS REAL (The warning was from a county in Central Florida.)

WeatherStar XL V2 Emulation with Errors!

8 years ago in April 2002 TWC began departing ways with the NWS for local forecasts and began making their own home bred forecasts. Because of that, I removed the NOAA logo and the NWS text from the 36 hr forecast screen and the Current Condition narration is still being pulled from the airport obs. instead of the downtown area obs. There are also some more errors; can you spot them all out?

Also I can't take any credit for the animated Isolated Thunderstorm icon that was made by Martin I just wanted to see if it would lag under the recording program I used to record this emulation.

I was actually surprised to see TWC was talking about this storm cell during my original recording of this (This was the 3rd and final take). So they do still talk about weather on that channel these days.... :whistling:

I decided to start off with one of the easiest STARs to make the 3000. I only made 1 screen so far which is the CC and I added a crawl, now I just need to find out how to add a working clock.....

Song featured in video is a really good 80's song called "The Quest" by Ramsey Lewis.

NOTE - If you hear a very faint voice at the beginning of this you're not hearing things, I turned it down too low thinking I was turning it up.

So far I got about 75% of the transition done, but I need to work on faster timing and revising some of the fade transitions.

Fall 2010/Winter 2011 Updates
Transitions/animations on all slides/icons
All IS icons will be replaced with XL icons
Almanac screen will be added (the current IS almanac screen is temporarily being used until I right one for this version.)

Nice, but how are you getting the radar? It looks like a GIF image just stretched out to me. Where do you get it? For my last emulator I used the IntelliCast radar images, which worked really well.

That's because the radar wasn't transparent and I didn't layer it together before I imported it in so it automatically came up with a white background instead of a blank one.

Also I didn't notice it until afterwards, but I made a minor mistake with the layering on the TCF, the LDL covers the ending part of the crawl that's why it disappears as soon as the TCF comes up, it'll be corrected in the next video.

With a twist...having the XL v1 (1999 - 2001, which is why the titlebar is the color scheme it is) in mind when designing this.

All 23 cities listed are only in the South in this test run video, also all weather infromation was provided by weather.com (TWCi) so it was 100% accurate at the time of this video rendering.

It's only mid August, but I figured I would go ahead and come up with some intros for my 25 D.O.C. Special. I don't want to make the same mistake I made back in 2008 when I first attempted this. This is one of the three I've been working on, it's also the best one to me so far.

This is just a notice pertaining to my ongoing project, I honestly don't know what the heck is wrong with a couple of my XL v1 emulation files (1 and 2 min LF flavors) Only the K flavor (90 sec.) works and that really ticks me off.  :furious: Time just doesn't permit me to redo them and I wouldn't want to anyway, it took me several weeks to get them to the state they were in on Adobe Premiere Elements.  :( So that means I have to go to Plan B and substitute my IntelliSTAR v1 Emulations (DE/LM Flavors) for the corrupted XL files or at least I believe they're corrupted.  :hmm:

Don't you just love when you make big plans months in advance only to have them go to crap in the toilet?

WeatherSTAR4000 Version 3 Emulator - January 18, 2012

The song in the emulator is an unknown from August 1996 on TWC back then, I got the 2 min sample from twcclassics.com. I also tried making the audio a little more clearer in Audacity. Meh, it helped only just a little from the original. Video is attached below.

I attempted (can't stress that enough) to remake the local forecast intro from 1995, the one with the pink/purple background and the scrolling text w/ TWC's logo in the bottom right being circled around by text. It would have looked better if I could find a better high quality video to make it from, but I tried my best.

Does this look kinda VCR Quality like? I wanted to go a few steps further and give the "illusion" that someone was taping this off of a TV, but meh it started to look less realistic than this. This video was up before with music from Norman Brown called "Love's Holiday", but unfortunately the song blocks the video in certain countries. I don't mind having tagged videos (at a certain limit) but I can't have those kind of copyrighted videos on my account they raise a red flag (literally) I've had that problem twice this year and was able to fix it by removing those type of videos.

Final Draft Video
I studied over various different still images of the 4000 to get the background, blue template, extended forecast templates, and the orange titlebar as accurate as possible. The radar once again I take absolutely no credit for. That is from the 4000 v3 emulator. I'm just using it temporarily until I can finish drawing up together some county outlines/interstate outlines to go with the Intellicast radars which I'll be using as my radar source.

About half of the info is accurate, (mainly the local forecast segment)

You have to download or open the attachment to see the video. (File size - 6.23mb)

Song: "In the Rain" by Kenny G. (April 1993 Playlist) - Couldn't have picked a more appropriate song.
It took me until a couple of days ago to figure out how to get the icons to sync with the text on the TCF, but once I experimented and figured it out I had my DUH moment. :P

Also to those who see this if the audio is too low, let me know. I can re upload a second version that's narration free in it's place. I can't really judge for myself because the left audio in my earphones isn't working, there's a cut on the wire so I can only hear audio from the right side. :hmm:

Several weeks ago I mentioned I was working simultaneously on two legacy STARs, well here's the other one completed in After Effects after about 5-6 weeks. :D Just like I did with the 4000, I studied over different XLs (real and emulated) to get the animations/transitions right.

NOTE: The radar for Atlanta (KFFC) was not working today from the NOAA site so I had to leave that blank. Also I'm not purposely trying to self promote Mc Donalds, the ad I used for the ad crawl is the same ad, word for word that's been used on my IntelliStar unit for the past few months.

It's been about 9 months since the last time I made an IntelliStar emulation and back then it was made in Powerpoint 2010 like most of my emulations have been. However, this is my very first time emulating this version of the IntelliStar from scratch in After Effects. The last time I attempted to emulate the IntelliStar was of the current version back in August 2010. I haven't tried to do any version of the STAR since.

Boy, I've learned a lot about this software in those 3 years since...

Completion Date: Fall 2013 or Winter 2014

Update: Revised from Scratch - IntelliSTAR v1 Emulation (After Effects) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jah43Y3OTYM#)

So far what I've done has come out well. Just need to make minor tweaks (when I have the free time like today) over the next several months.

radar test xlv1 emulation after effects

I used Pittsburgh's radar source from the NWS as an example. In addition using Atlanta as the main radar location in my composition. The attachment below is how it turned out.

I used Color Key Difference to remove the blue radar echoes
I used the Color key to remove the black background

NOTE: This emulation was VERY last minute which is why the regional maps/radar is unavailable, I didn't have enough time to draw & composite them into After Effects.

Rapid City was not my first choice for this emulation, however it turned out to be the most interesting. So far the area has seen numerous observations of thundersnow, 1+ inch per hour snowfall rates, nearing 2 feet of snow (which if it happens and it looks like it will, is a new record(s). In addition to being just shy of hurricane force wind gusts (70 mph; hurricane force is 74mph or greater)

Tell me about it! Try walking outside to get to the add-on school wing for 2 of my classes while it's raining moderately with wind gusting 30 MPH right in your face. Not fun. Actually I was outside walking to the add-on wing during the time that this emulation was for...around 10 AM.

Great emulation BTW!

These are some of the 4000 emulator uh I mean "simulator" videos I've recorded over the past week. Last week was my first time using the newest version of it and I love it! The only problem I'm having now is the Travel Cities Forecast doesn't work, I'll have to check into that and see if it's something I'm doing wrong.

My first recorded video
January 26, 2014 (Two Days Before Snow Jam 2014) - Dan Chandler Narration

WeatherSTAR XL version 1 (1999-2001) LM Flavor

Slight changes made since January 2014
-Tweaked the fonts on the time/temp on the banner
-Scaled down the weather icons on the Extended Forecast
-Realignment of some of the text on some forecast product screens (ex: 8 city obs)
-Final Draft of moon designs for the moon phase section of the almanac.

Song: "Freedomland" by The Yellowjackets (This song was featured on the June 2000 Playlist, which is why I chose it for this emulation. :) )
