Title: LFMusicFan's Emulations
Post by: LFMusicFan on January 21, 2008, 12:20:13 AM
Here are screen caps of my Adobe emulations. Most you've seen before, but there is 1 that's new here as well. Since I know someone's gonna ask, they were made in photoshop and the text was added in premiere elements.

Junior

4000

XL
(http://myrandomtwcstuff.googlepages.com/XLEmulatorv2.PNG)

3000 (new)

I won't have any video clips of these emulators in action for awhile, since I STILL don't have after effects. <_<

I don't have after effects yet. But yes, using photoshop is pretty simple once you get used to it.

What I want to know is how people are managing to do the animated clock without changing ever second each frame. I heard there was a script or something, but i couldn't find one.

The is a script, but according to many people I've talked to, it greatly increases rendering time. Just like my emulations in premiere, the digits act on their own.

The 4000 did indeed have this feature. It's the very same background Chazz used in his emulation. I know technically I'm not in southern California, but I'm very close.

If anyone wants to see a video of the LF with the air quality, here it is (http://files.filefront.com/4000+3wmv/;9744946;/fileinfo.html) on filefront. The LDL and the radar kinda ruin the authentic look of it it though. :(

I don't get it...
Before 2004, only Southern California had the Air Quality Forecast (4000 only). By 2004, almost all headends had the Air Quality Forecast (A feature of the IntelliStar). However, not all headends had decided to upgrade to the IS.

This is why the quality was so bad before. I've now set the resolution to 640 x 480, and there's a HUGE difference. Features "Still Life" by Ryan Farish from this month's playlist.

Here's a 4000 emulator clip made for the LAT48's. I don't like how youtube 'squishes' my emulator videos slightly. It blurs the text, even in high quality mode. <_<

Oh, that's completely made up. My parents can't remember the actual ID. :(

I found a high quality comcast logo using google, and I got rid of the white background in photoshop. If you want it, I can give it to you. :)

Here are two more emulations I recently made that I captured with my tuner.

Emulation #1 (http://files.filefront.com/4000+12wmv/;11116953;/fileinfo.html) is my 4000 emulator using Nick's new and improved icons. This one was mainly test. As you'll see on the CC screen, there's something else I'm testing out as well... And yes, I know the little surprise animates slow too. That has been fixed for future emulations though. Features "Pressing On" by Yvonne Ayers.

Emulation #2 (http://files.filefront.com/XL+8wmv/;11116954;/fileinfo.html) is an XL emulation I made for Mike a few days ago. This is also the first time the XL has not been taped from the TV, so now you can see all my screwups. :hmm: Features "If Only" by Ryan Farish.

Since I know someone will ask, the LDL on the 4000 and the XL transitions are slow because of my DVD player. For some reason, it doesn't handle the large emulator videos very well.

Which STAR? You can choose from the junior, 3000 (as it was right before it was decomissioned), 4000 (as it is today), or *gulp* ....the XL.

Hey Derek, could you tell me how to make a 4000 Emulator (possibly XL) and:

1. Get After Effects Free Trial w/out an Adobe Account
2. Find Allen Jackson Narration (not on his Website)
3. Did you have to co ntact him?
4. Weatherstar 4000 Graphics

People have asked me that question several times. I really can't just post a simple explanation on how I make those emulations. They're far too complicated, expecially the XL.

1. I'm sure there is a way, but I have no idea how to do it. I'm sure Gary wouldn't be too thrilled about discussing how to illegally obtain software.
2. I got the Allen Jackson narration off of other XL videos (after asking permission of course)
3. No
4. I made all the 4000 graphics myself in photoshop.

Thanks! B) Those are so far the only redrawing icons I have finished. I'm currently working on the big cloud (used for reporting cloudy and mostly cloudy), fog, and the moon icon (which is probably the most difficult redraw next to the snowflake)

Oh, I almost forgot, I also have a 4000 emulation of Chazz's air quality screen redrawing itself and the titlebar 'wiping' itself leaving only the seconds on the clock. If anyone would like to see it, let me know :)

Derek, I like your emulations! I wish my parents can buy me AE, but they can, but for that, I'll have to take a graphic designing class, probably next summer, then if my parents consider me proven good in graphics and stuff, they'll probably buy me AE. I also need Photoshop CS3, because the one on my desktop is a starter edition ;).

If you like to make an XL for me (A v3 perhaps)

CC city Hayward

8 City observations

Berkeley
Concord
Fremont
Hayward
Livermore
Napa
San Jose
San Francisco

For the daypart, extended, and 36 hr forecast, put it as Hayward area.

Ok, I'm going to make this very clear for everyone: please stop bombarding me with XL requests. You have absolutely no idea how time consuming it is to configure it for a different area. Changing the text is no problem. It's creating the new maps and aligning the radar just right that really eats up time. And about half of the time, the people don't even watch the emulations I create for them! It's really not worth it for me to go through all the trouble to create a clip, only to have it be ignored. I've also been very busy lately, and have had barely enough time to sit down and create emulations. And once school starts, there will be even less time. So right now, creating XL emulations is really not at the top of my priority list.
Title: Re: LFMusicFan's Emulations
Post by: LFMusicFan on October 12, 2008, 02:47:15 PM
My XL emulations are probably going to either stop or become far less numerous, since winter is coming, and I have no way to do the winter precipitation on the radar. I've thought about using TWC's radar that Martin found on taiganet, but that would mean for 3 hours, I'd have to sit there and download the each radar frame as it updates. So unless someone has a solution to this problem, don't expect many more XL emulations until next April or May. :hmm:

Yeah, I wouldn't mind just having rain colors for snow on the radar, especially since it was like that on the XL for most of its life as Tyler stated. Don't worry about it.

Well, seeing as you guys don't care whether or not I have the winter precip, I guess I can forget about it then.  That really makes things a heck of a lot easier for me. :)

Krishnan, it's not that I don't want to create an XL configuration for you. It's just that it's a very time consuming process. Maybe when I get enough time, I'll do it. But you'll have to send me all the required info before I even consider doing it. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten PMs from people asking for emulations, when they don't provide any information for their location. If you can provide me with a CC location, 8 observation sites, a forecast location, regional map cities (screenshots are preferred), and radar cities/highway symbols (again, screenshots are helpful), maybe I'll consider it. But right now, I must perform the transition/icon updates on my other XL configs, so it may be awhile before I get to you. I hope you'll understand, Krishnan.

EDIT: Oh, and for those who drive me nuts about the animating icons, MAYBE I'll post 20 second .wmv clips of all the animating icons I've made. I have about another 10 or so before I'm willing to do so though, and I have to let my tester verify them.

But I do love it.

I think I may have figured out a way to get the wintry precip on the XL. I try and post an emulation tonight...

Wow, more amazing work! Would it be possible for you to use the graphic with the mom walking her daughter off the bus that Intellistar has before the Cotber 2007 update?

Here's a little animated gif showing all the screens on the intellistar I have designed (don't mind the old icons. It was all I had lol) Each screen is about 2 seconds.

Very nice! The background color for the geographical area is a little too dark though IMO

You know, I've never understood this, but whenever I save something as a .PNG from AE, it turns out darker than it should. In reality, it isn't that dark.

Have you tried making it as a jpg?

I've been trying to redo my v.3 graphics. I'm wondering, do the colors look right in the picture?

Ooh that looks fantastic! The colours look natural to that of an actual XL screen.

That actually looks great. The only slight detail I can think of (and this is me being picky again lol :P ) is that the observation site title, in this case, San Jose Int'l, is a bit light. The yellow should be less faint and a bit darker. But really, great work as usual
