Here are screen caps of my Adobe emulations. Most you've seen before, but there is 1 that's new here as well. Since I know someone's gonna ask, they were made in photoshop and the text was added in premiere elements.

3000 (new)
I won't have any video clips of these emulators in action for awhile, since I STILL don't have after effects. <_<
-
Wow, those are fantastic Derek! :cool3:
-
Excellent job, Derek!
-
Thanks you guys! It means a lot to me. :)
-
Very nice, Derek.

So you knew? :P
Fantastic job Derek!
I like to get After Effects too but its very expensive. You can sometimes get it for free in college
-
Not for free Vic. at a discounted price. ;)
-
Wow Looks exactly like the real ones. :sunglasses:
-
is using after effects and photoshop simple?
-
is using after effects and photoshop simple?
I don't have after effects yet. But yes, using photoshop is pretty simple once you get used to it.
-
Derek made this for me. Isn't it Amazing? (from the Tony Yardlet song playing primetime :P )

I think I'll finally be getting after effects this Tuesday!!

Great! How much is the price?

Here's (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eez___MrOgc) my first emulation in over 2 months. :sunglasses:

Actually no. That was my first after effects emulator.
-
Nice! Was it easy?
-
Nice! Was it easy?
A lot easier than premiere once you get the hang of it.
-
i wish i can after effects but tis expensvie
-
What I want to know is how people are managing to do the animated clock without changing ever second each frame. I heard there was a script or something, but i couldn't find one.

The is a script, but according to many people I've talked to, it greatly increases rendering time. Just like my emulations in premiere, the digits act on their own.
-
Can you animate icons in after effects?

Can you animate icons in after effects?
You can, but I've never tried it before.
-
Maybe it'll be faster than your previous methods

Maybe it'll be faster than your previous methods
That I doubt.

But never say never!
-
But never say never!
When did I say never?
-
You didnt. You sounded in doubt that the icons will take long to animate.

Here's (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-_C2X_UvcQ) a WeatherSTAR 3000 emulator video I animated in after effects.
-
Here's (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SXRoLd7RdlU) my first junior emulator in after effects. There's a pretty nasty storm coming our way!

Is After Effects capable of an XL emulation?

Is After Effects capable of an XL emulation?
Yeah it is, but it will be awhile before I do the XL.
-
No problem. Take your time. How much you got AE for?
-
Here's (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gwbCu7Be9w) a 4000 emulation I made the other day. It looks like the marine layer has come early this year.
-
Very nice! B)
-
Excellent! I also like it that you put a notice for people to not ask you for the song
-
Superb work, Derek. B)
-
Excellent! I also like it that you put a notice for people to not ask you for the song
Well yeah, since the song is unavailable.
-
Anyone recognize this (http://myrandomtwcstuff.googlepages.com/phto0083.jpg) screen? :whistling:
-
Wow, I wasn't aware the 4000 HAD such a screen.
-
They did in SOuthern California only
-
San Jose is not in Southern California.
-
I know but he put there anyways since So Cal had the air quality feature
-
I don't get it...
-
I should put tides for Kansas City, MO :P
-
He didn't make that screen. That's an actual screen from the actual 4000. :whistling:
-
Wow, that looked liked a very real emulation
-
Wow...that's a neat screen!
-
The 4000 did indeed have this feature. It's the very same background Chazz used in his emulation. I know technically I'm not in southern California, but I'm very close.
-
If anyone wants to see a video of the LF with the air quality, here it is (http://files.filefront.com/4000+3wmv/;9744946;/fileinfo.html) on filefront. The LDL and the radar kinda ruin the authentic look of it it though. :(
-
I don't get it...
Before 2004, only Southern California had the Air Quality Forecast (4000 only). By 2004, almost all headends had the Air Quality Forecast (A feature of the IntelliStar). However, not all headends had decided to upgrade to the IS.

Thats what I don't get. San Jose is not in Southern California.
-
He just put it there for fun and creativity...
-
No Vic he did not. I tried to explain this to oyu the other day. That is a shot of the actual 4000, not an emulator.
-
What the heck is wrong with me? :wall:
-
No Vic he did not. I tried to explain this to oyu the other day. That is a shot of the actual 4000, not an emulator.
No. It is an emulator that Derek created in Adobe After Effects. The 4000 only had the Air Quality screen in southern California, and no one knows for sure what it looked like.
-
So does why everyone say i'm wrong?

Yeah, this is an emulator. Couldn't you tell by the radar from the clip I posted above?

He's talking about the Air Quality Forecast picture you posted. ;)

With the eccentric posting habits of some people, things get swept to previous pages quite quickly, and I generally don't browse past pages of a thread.

I really suck at those :cry3:. I don't have premiere or after effects  :(

I Don't Have Premiere Of After Effects Either

What font did you use for the radar banner (or was the font designed using a program)?

I traced the text and the icon the best I could in photoshop from a real 4000.

speak for yourself.
i love movie maker.

If it weren't for movie maker, my emulations would be 700+ MB.

I love Movie Maker. That's the only way how I could edit movies. If only it didnt crash all the time
-
Yeah, it crashes all the time for me when I am dragging files

Not in DFW when the 4000 was active.

Here's (http://files.filefront.com/4000+4wmv/;9917065;/fileinfo.html) a 4000 emulation I made with a brief appearance of my satellite v2 in the beginning.
-
Wait...they changed the satellite LF too?
-
No they didn't. He just emulated it. It is very good though!
-
Wait...they changed the satellite LF too?
I wish.

Here's (http://files.filefront.com/XL+1wmv/;10085875;/fileinfo.html) my first XL emulator clip taken with my video camera. This is merely a test, so the colors and narration may not be perfect.
-
Looks good so far. :D
-
AWESOME job dude! I thought it was a real XL for a sec! Love your music choice!
-
Nice Work

Here's another attempt at the XL. This time, I filmed it off of an HD TV.

What's funny is the temps were hotter on the coast than they were inland. Usually it's the other way around.

Here's another WeatherSTAR 4000 emulator video I made this morning. I've been messing with the settings, and I discovered the resolution was set to 320 x 240. This is why the quality was so bad before. I've now set the resolution to 640 x 480, and there's a HUGE difference. Features "Still Life" by Ryan Farish from this month's playlist.

Very nice! B)

Here's a 4000 emulator clip made for the LAT48's. I don't like how youtube 'squishes' my emulator videos slightly. It blurs the text, even in high quality mode. <_<

Very nice! Was 2417 really your ID or was it made up? Also, where did you get the transparent Comcast logo?

Oh, that's completely made up. My parents can't remember the actual ID. :(
I found a high quality comcast logo using google, and I got rid of the white background in photoshop. If you want it, I can give it to you. :)

I like it!

Here are two more emulations I recently made that I captured with my tuner.
Emulation #1 (http://files.filefront.com/4000+12wmv/;11116953;/fileinfo.html) is my 4000 emulator using Nick's new and improved icons. This one was mainly test. As you'll see on the CC screen, there's something else I'm testing out as well... And yes, I know the little surprise animates slow too. That has been fixed for future emulations though. Features "Pressing On" by Yvonne Ayers.
Emulation #2 (http://files.filefront.com/XL+8wmv/;11116954;/fileinfo.html) is an XL emulation I made for Mike a few days ago. This is also the first time the XL has not been taped from the TV, so now you can see all my screwups. :hmm: Features "If Only" by Ryan Farish.
Since I know someone will ask, the LDL on the 4000 and the XL transitions are slow because of my DVD player. For some reason, it doesn't handle the large emulator videos very well.
-
Looks great! Thanks for my XL video! B)

You're very welcome. B) Let me know whenever you'd like me to make another one..

I like it. The transitions look fine to me. Could you possibly make one for me?

Which STAR? You can choose from the junior, 3000 (as it was right before it was decomissioned), 4000 (as it is today), or *gulp* ....the XL.

The both look EXCELLENT!

I wanted an XL because i never saw an Xlv3 for the jersey shore but I'm not forcing you if it's difficult. Otherwise a junior would be nice

I knew you'd say XL. :D
If you can provide me with the cities, I'll see what I can do... But it will be awhile before you see a clip..

Hirad or Aiport code cities?

Hirad or Aiport code cities?
Airport code cities. Only the intellistar uses Hirad. ;)

Is that exactly how you want the reporting stations to appear in the emulator? Also, what do you want for your CC location, forecast location, tides locations, and the regional map?
-
Is that exactly how you want the reporting stations to appear in the emulator?
Yeah, I thought the same thing. "Sussex County Airport (Georgetown, DE)" will definitely not fit on the local obs page.
-
No put Sussex County Airport. These are the exact cities that were on my xlv1.
and McGuire AFB not MCGUIREAFB i had all caps on my bad

Hey Derek, could you tell me how to make a 4000 Emulator (possibly XL) and:
1. Get After Effects Free Trial w/out an Adobe Account
2. Find Allen Jackson Narration (not on his Website)
3. Did you have to co ntact him?
4. Weatherstar 4000 Graphics

People have asked me that question several times. I really can't just post a simple explanation on how I make those emulations. They're far too complicated, expecially the XL.
1. I'm sure there is a way, but I have no idea how to do it. I'm sure Gary wouldn't be too thrilled about discussing how to illegally obtain software.
2. I got the Allen Jackson narration off of other XL videos (after asking permission of course)
3. No
4. I made all the 4000 graphics myself in photoshop.
-
Very nice emulations, Derek. I LOVE the drawing icons on the 4000. :cool3:

Thanks! B) Those are so far the only redrawing icons I have finished. I'm currently working on the big cloud (used for reporting cloudy and mostly cloudy), fog, and the moon icon (which is probably the most difficult redraw next to the snowflake)
Oh, I almost forgot, I also have a 4000 emulation of Chazz's air quality screen redrawing itself and the titlebar 'wiping' itself leaving only the seconds on the clock. If anyone would like to see it, let me know :)
-
Hey, Derek, Here's one for you:
CC- Richmond International
Local- Richmond, Hanover, Virginia Beach, Hampton, Norfolk, Hanover VA, Petersburg, Fredericksburg
Forecast For- Richmond, VA
regional Maps- Richmond, Washington, Norfolk, Atlantic City, Roanoke, Charleston, WV
This could be either XL or 4000 emulator.
Make to TWCFanChris

It would have to be 4000 since you didn't give me any radar cities.

You want radar cities:
Richmond
Petersburg
Hanover (if you can squeeze it)
Hampton Roads
Fredericksburg
Charlottesville
Norfolk

Here's an XL emulation configured for Chazz's area: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTS2YOEdaoY

That was amazing! :cool3: I really loved the radar, the animated icons, and the sunlight effect done in the background. Is the icons something you did in AE?

I created the frames in photoshop, but yes, I animated them in AE. I have a seperate 'composition' for each icon.
-
Very good job! :cool3:
-
Very nice! I'm sure this would show Chazz how much you enjoy his emulations! :twothumbs:
-
Outstanding job, Derek!
-
Looks great, Derek.
-
Really Nice Derek! I like how the icons animate. :cool3:
-
Thanks for all the comments! It's a shame this one doesn't have the high quality option though. :(
-
Excellent job too! I wish I could make my own XL forecasts...
-
Here's an XL emulation I made today configured to how I believe the Leadville XL looked. The only thing that's the same is the CC location and the forecast location. I never got a chance to see an actual LF, just the LDL.

Derek, I like your emulations! I wish my parents can buy me AE, but they can, but for that, I'll have to take a graphic designing class, probably next summer, then if my parents consider me proven good in graphics and stuff, they'll probably buy me AE. I also need Photoshop CS3, because the one on my desktop is a starter edition ;).
If you like to make an XL for me (A v3 perhaps)
CC city Hayward
8 City observations
Berkeley
Concord
Fremont
Hayward
Livermore
Napa
San Jose
San Francisco
For the daypart, extended, and 36 hr forecast, put it as Hayward area.
-
Ok, I'm going to make this very clear for everyone: please stop bombarding me with XL requests. You have absolutely no idea how time consuming it is to configure it for a different area. Changing the text is no problem. It's creating the new maps and aligning the radar just right that really eats up time. And about half of the time, the people don't even watch the emulations I create for them! It's really not worth it for me to go through all the trouble to create a clip, only to have it be ignored. I've also been very busy lately, and have had barely enough time to sit down and create emulations. And once school starts, there will be even less time. So right now, creating XL emulations is really not at the top of my priority list.
-
My XL emulations are probably going to either stop or become far less numerous, since winter is coming, and I have no way to do the winter precipitation on the radar. I've thought about using TWC's radar that Martin found on taiganet, but that would mean for 3 hours, I'd have to sit there and download the each radar frame as it updates. So unless someone has a solution to this problem, don't expect many more XL emulations until next April or May. :hmm:
-
Derek, there is no way I'm forcing you to do this. I'm sorry I've been annoying lately to you, so please don't do it if you don't want to.
-
For years - the XL never had wintry preip on it's radar. You could just not do wintry precip.
-
Yeah, I wouldn't mind just having rain colors for snow on the radar, especially since it was like that on the XL for most of its life as Tyler stated. Don't worry about it.
-
Well, seeing as you guys don't care whether or not I have the winter precip, I guess I can forget about it then. That really makes things a heck of a lot easier for me. :)
Krishnan, it's not that I don't want to create an XL configuration for you. It's just that it's a very time consuming process. Maybe when I get enough time, I'll do it. But you'll have to send me all the required info before I even consider doing it. I can't tell you how many times I've gotten PMs from people asking for emulations, when they don't provide any information for their location. If you can provide me with a CC location, 8 observation sites, a forecast location, regional map cities (screenshots are preferred), and radar cities/highway symbols (again, screenshots are helpful), maybe I'll consider it. But right now, I must perform the transition/icon updates on my other XL configs, so it may be awhile before I get to you. I hope you'll understand, Krishnan.
EDIT: Oh, and for those who drive me nuts about the animating icons, MAYBE I'll post 20 second .wmv clips of all the animating icons I've made. I have about another 10 or so before I'm willing to do so though, and I have to let my tester verify them.

I wouldn't get too excited about it. They're going to be over a black background, like this (http://myrandomtwcstuff.googlepages.com/Showers.wmv). They're really for viewing purposes only, but I suppose you could use them if you really wanted to. It won't turn out too good though. :hmm:

Yes I do, as long as you think I'M NOT ANNOYING
-
I don't understand how you being annoying has to do with maps with winter precip.

He's responding to that little paragraph I posted to him.
And Krishnan, that's the exact type of thing that will annoy me. <_<
-
EITHER WAY YOU THINK I'M ANNOYING ANYWAY!
-
Krishnan, do us all a favor and shut up!
-
Krishnan, that post you just made (which is now deleted) just earned you a warning. <_<

I'm sorry guys, I just don't feel like myself, so yeah I'm really sorry Derek

Here's an XL emulation I made earlier: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8WYuuzAkJo&fmt=18
Here's a little preview of something I've been working on:

I'll probably have a video of these up in a few days...

Very nice!

I love that air quality map! :cool3:

Here's the beginning of an intellistar emulator I created awhile ago. Obviously, it's far from complete, as there's no maps or animating LDL. Don't mind the weather data either. Everything is fake. I based the screen lineup off of this video. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FZosJwEbAPQ)

Let me know what you all think! B)

Amazing work! :twothumbs:
-
Wow that looks very nice! Can't wait to see the final product.
-
Very nice! This isn't that important, but the "MOD" and "HAZARDOUS" columns were actually displayed as "MOD RISK" and "VERY UNHEALTHY." (both on two lines) That's how it was on XL v.2, but I'm sure it's the same on v.3 as well.
-
Wonderful work Derek i wish my Intellistar had no narration like that. what song did you use?
-
thats the Passage by CC Gilmore * i think*

Yeah, I know. When I added it, it just didn't look right to me. But you're right, if this product were on the v.3, I'm sure it would look just like it did on the v.2.

Yep, that's it!!

Nice Job, Derek! Do you have the 36 Hour forecast movies from Martin's Goodies? I can send them to you if you don't have them for the 36 Hour forecast. B)

That looks awesome, Derek! :twothumbs:

Here's another XL emulation I made for Chazz's area: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n80odfRLH08&fmt=18 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n80odfRLH08&fmt=18)

That's an emulation? It looks so real
-
Good job! I always thought that song went great with the XL.
-
Too bad you didn't get around into using the ID. :hmm:
But I do love it.

If I knew what font the XL used on the ID screen, I would've used it.

Here's another clip of my IS emulator. This time, it includes an LDL and the 36 hour forecast movies.

I think I may have figured out a way to get the wintry precip on the XL. I try and post an emulation tonight...
-
Sounds good, Derek! Good luck B)
-

Alright, thundersnow! :P
AMAZING job, Derek! I am blown away by how real that looks. Wish I could do something like that.

Wow, more amazing work! Would it be possible for you to use the graphic with the mom walking her daughter off the bus that Intellistar has before the Cotber 2007 update?
-
Impressive mix!

If you can provide me with that graphic, yes.
-
Nice!
-
Cool! Interesting slide for an XL.
-
Here's a little animated gif showing all the screens on the intellistar I have designed (don't mind the old icons. It was all I had lol) Each screen is about 2 seconds.

My attempt at the XL's metro forecast screen:

Very nice! The background color for the geographical area is a little too dark though IMO

You know, I've never understood this, but whenever I save something as a .PNG from AE, it turns out darker than it should. In reality, it isn't that dark.

Have you tried making it as a jpg?

I've been trying to redo my v.3 graphics. I'm wondering, do the colors look right in the picture?

Ooh that looks fantastic! The colours look natural to that of an actual XL screen.

That actually looks great. The only slight detail I can think of (and this is me being picky again lol :P ) is that the observation site title, in this case, San Jose Int'l, is a bit light. The yellow should be less faint and a bit darker. But really, great work as usual
-
Looks awesome, Derek!
-
Sorry to bump, I haven't been on much so I missed a lot of new posts, etc. That looks awesome Derek! The background and colors blend in real well.
-
Glad you like them! And don't worry, I haven't been on much either. :hmm:
