Title: IntelliSTAR "All the Time" Emulator
Post by: livefromButler on January 28, 2014, 01:11:18 AM
Is there anyone who still uses this forum and is willing to work with me to create an IntelliSTAR emulator based on the new "Weather All the Time" IntelliSTAR theme?

I'm not quite sure yet, I'm thinking along the lines of one of the Visual Studio Programs, maybe Java, or even XNA like the WS4000 emulator.  I'll keep you posted as I play around a bit...  I've created a primitive PowerPoint version just to get into the mindset the new graphics.  I can send you a link to the file or a video if you want to take a look... I hate PowerPoint emulators though so I definitely want to take this project above and beyond that.  Thanks for your interest!

What font is that out of curiosity?

It is the Calibri Light font that comes with PPT2013.  It's not exact to the real thing (it's a bit more rounded) but it works.  The shadow is enabled on the text in the picture.

I took a shot at making one in photoshop, I as well found the official font used which is "Akko Light".

I'm not a programmer (I don't know how ), but I would like to beta test upon beta release.

Well I have no experience in programming either but I sure as hell can remake graphics, I just finished up the TWC "Box" graphics as I call them, its not perfect but very close to say the least.

By the way if anyone does have programming knowledge then send me a message and I can send the PSD files out.

I have some suggestions. Code the emulator in either java, python, or C/C++; make it Free Libre and Open Source, make the license lgpl, and have an alternative set of graphics and sound that are completely original and also licensed lgpl.

Alright, I'm back after a bit of a break.  I've continued working, and got all of the graphics remade and compiled into a video.  I did this in PowerPoint and created several PowerPoint "layers", then used Sony Vegas to overlay them and compile them.

TWC Intellistar 2 HD Emulation - Local on the 8s - Butler PA 6/21/14 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIt34KPl5II#)

You can see the final product, plus my "Weatherscan Prototype" at the end, which is essentially a modified version of the lower and sidebars, or, to use Marconan's words, "Box graphics".

All of the graphics I developed can be exported to high quality images.

So, now the question is, how do we create a computer program that can produce the same outcome, and run automatically to retrieve weather data from the Internet.  I've looked briefly at wunderground.com's "Weather API".  Do any coders want to weigh in and try to help us out?  I know a little code, but not enough to start something like this.

UPDATE: Whoops, I forgot the temperature arc on the Summary, and I forgot narrations.

Sorry for bumping, but I've had an Idea. If we use VB we might be able to use macros and change the powerpoint text boxes. An Intellistar is a nightmare for emulating, as it's full of animations.

Yeah, I hope there's someone who can make an IntelliStar 2 emulator on VB without problems. D:

I think that coding in VB for PPT is our best bet.  I'll dive into that and see what I can come up with.  Please, anyone, feel free to help.  I see you everywhere Chris XD

How do I get the animated radar just in case I wanted to make my own emulator?

This is amazing! Do you want me to send you some of the LOT8 music so you could sync it better with it?
