Here is What Paul Kocin had to say himself about Leaving The Weather Channel....... God I admire this guy

Thank you all for your supportive remarks. While I would love to say that I left the weather channel on my own, the truth is that they eliminated my position.

Now that I'm no longer working there (actually, my last day is officially on Friday - I'm currently in Orlando at my parents house), I am more than happy to find my place where my abilities will be best utilized and appreciated. I am kind of excited, albeit anxious at the prospect of the unknown.

So, can you guys find me a job??? (jes kidding, although NOT REALLY!!!!!)

I do plan on restarting a website my sister and her husband originally put up for me entitled, oddly enough, paulkocin.com. If you'd like to send me any comments, thoughts, suggestions, etc, I probably won't be able to send mail back (I"ve got a bug I've got to fix) for at least a week until I get home. I don't know if I will do anything with this site but at least it's a place for me to start going.

One opportunity for me lies in the possibility now that I may again be able to experience a good snowstorm (and I have now missed many a good one since 1999, when I started at TWC). Atlanta is a nice place to live - comfortable winter weather, nice fall and early spring but 2" of snow annually just doesn't cut it!! So, all is not lost - Kocin may finally yet again experience a BIG ONE!

As far as the future goes, I'm not sure right now - will see where my intuition leads and it's got to have winter weather involved (surprisingly, I do have other interests - have a 300 page manuscript on Northeast tropical cyclones and went storm chasing once about 2 years ago - saw 9 tornadoes in Nebraska on my very first storm - needless to say, I don't think I NEED to do another storm chase).

I am planning on being up in Baltimore for the conference this summer and am looking forward to it - had a great time last year - special thanks to "Mr. Bob". So, that's the story from the horse's mouth -- I'm doing fine and while I hope what I'm about to say doesn't get me into trouble - it is their loss.

Thanks again

PK

I still don't understand why they eliminated his position, I always thought that was stupid. They have a Hurricane and Severe Weather expert, but they didn't think it was important to have a Winter Weather expert?

I don't understand why TWC eliminated his position either.  I had the privilege to meet him when he held a seminar at Penn State, and he's a true expert on winter weather.  He and one other meteorologist created a snowstorm scale to rate each storm based on total snowfall amounts, total aerial coverage, and total population coverage.  I hope he continues to be successful.

It's very sad TWC did that, the only reason i really watched TWC back then was to catch Paul's forecasts throughout the winter. i hope when i graduate i can be his successor and bring the Winter Weather Expert title back.

I vividly remember Paul Kocin. I remember seeing him a lot in 2002-03 covering our active winter season. Sad to see him go :(

I remember watching him doing coverage of the President's Day '03 blizzard. He did a great job covering it IMO, but his raspy voice agitated me

I always liked seeing Paul on TWC because when he was on, you knew it would be a big storm. The fact that he was on TWC made the storm bigger lol. He always made each snowstorm comprehendable to even the least weather-savvy viewers. I also hope he continues to be successful, and hold out for TWC welcoming him back.

Oh, great to know whatever happened to Paul Kocin. I saw him many many times in 2003 when I first started watching. After 2003 I began to wonder what happened...now after reading this it is sad to hear that he and his position is eliminated.

I am not criticizing him, but has anyone noticed he has a raspy voice?

What is it with this forum harping on less-than-ideal voices?!  :dunno:

Paul Kocin knew his stuff about snow/winter storms. It was disappointing when he left and was a major loss for TWC in my opinion.

That was not right, the way TWC did him.

Wow, I never realized why I never watch weather channel anymore. I watch all the others. It is because Paul is gone. The whole family really loved to watch his reports. Shame on you weather channel. You lost more viewers.
